War of the Ankonian Sea
The War of the Ankonian Sea was a war between the Amul Empire, ruled by Sultan Abdul IV, and the Kingdom of Coven, ruled by King Umberto I. The Empire declared war on the island kingdom after wanting to seize it's land on the island of Ankonia. The war's first years were a series of naval skirmishes and battles with mixed results before on March,11,1879, The Battle of Deskion, the war's largest naval battle, occurred and ended with a Coven defeat. After this, The Amuls landed troops on the Coven homeland and a fierce ground campaign ensues while the fleets still fought in smaller battles on the seas. The war ended in 1881 when Coven gave up and ceded some of it's land on the island to the Amul Empire. The Amuls would hold onto this land until 1919 when they lost it to the Akadian Empire at the end of the First World War.
The Conflict
Prelude
The Amul Empire and Kingdom of Coven never had positive opinions of each other. The Empire wanted control of the kingdom's land as it along with the rest of the island which was rich in valuable resources. So, on June,12,1878, the Amul Empire declared war on the kingdom to secure it's resource interests.
The Engagement
For the first few months of the war, the Kingdom and the Amuls fought a series of small naval battles with mixed results until March,11,1879, when the Battle of Deskion occurred. This huge clash of iron warships would become history's first fleet battle between iron hulled ships. It would lead to the defeat of the Coven Navy and the deaths of Admirals Vasquez and Ibanez. After the defeat of the Coven fleet, their would be more small naval skirmishes but, most of the war would be fought on the island. Several ground battles would be fought, most famously was the Battle of Pagano, where Coven troops under General Flavio Peres Braz managed to win a victory against a numerically superior Amul army lead by General Rolan Neubauer. But, as 1880 and then 1881 dragged on, the Coven army eventually was pushed further and further back, eventually, the Kingdom knew they couldn't keep fighting the numerically superior Amul forces and they capitulated.
Aftermath
The victory in the war would serve as a great morale boost to the Amul military all the way till their defeat in World War I and the subsequent collapse of the Amul Empire.
