Maximillian Kelsen
Grand Admiral Maximillian Kelsen (a.k.a. "The Builder of Battleships")
Grand Admiral Maximillian Kelsen was a Valerian Grand Admiral, Head of the Valerian Admiralty from 1900-1948, and head of the Valerian Military Expansion Party. He designed many of Valeria's most famous warships of the first half of the 20th century. He joined the navy at the age of 19 in 1879. He rose through the ranks quickly due to his combat experience and excellent ability in naval strategy. He served in the Valerian-Roala War (1889-1891). By 1900, he was an Admiral and was head of the Valerian Military Expansion Party, a political party that supported the expansion of Valeria's military. After winning support in the Parliament from other parties and public, his party began to push military reform. When Fleet Admiral Clarke retired as Head of the Admiralty in 1900, Emperor Alexander VII gave him the position and after this, Kelsen appointed his close ally, friend, and party member, Admiral Ernzt von Heilmann, another good naval commander as his second in command. In 1906, Kelsen and his design board revolutionized the world with the launch of HMS Dreadnought, making all pervious battleships obsolete. He continued support for naval supremacy would earn him his nickname, "The Builder of Battleships". His support for big battleships would prove to be well put during World War I in 1915 at the Battle of Drevden where a combined Akadian and Valerian fleet decimated the Amul Navy in one fell swoop. After the war, he would advocate for the testing and construction of aircraft carriers, seeing their possible usefulness. He would go on to lead the Navy in the Sendovian War and the Second World War. During WWII, he was promoted to Grand Admiral by his close ally, Emperor Vincent I, who strongly supported him. After the war, he would retire at the age of 88 in 1948 and die in 1965 at the age of 105. He was given a state funeral by Emperor Justinian I, son of Vincent, and buried in St.Gloriana's Cemetary in Valeria. The Maximillian Kelsen-Class of Aircraft Carriers would be named after him and the navy still follows his policy of keeping up to strength with the other global powers to the present day.
