Earth

Earth (or a planet exactly the same on a different timeline, trapped in Colonial Era-style society). Some countries are colonised, others are colonisers. The strongest among them have natural resources such as wood and iron, good for building ships and weapons. The "savage" countries are rich in other resources, such as silks, gold, and diamonds- they're beautiful, but not much use if you want to sail the world and conquer it. Medicine is mostly herbal, rudimentary concotions. Scientists in coloniser countries work every day. Magicians in the colonised harbour secrets that cure what ails a man, if it is so wished.
