Earth Adjacent

A modern/urban fantasy Earth inhabited by supernatural beings and watched by old Gods. The Gods themselves are manifestations of the inherent forces of nature, such as Sunlight, The Moon, The Seas, The Molten Core, etc. The Gods rule over all the creations on earth, but each have magical beings that are more directly under their influence. Over time, their influence over the natural beings of Earth has waned. Still, many of the supernatural beings remain devout followers.   All powers on Earth are formed by the Channeling of Gods. Some creatures are naturally non-aligned to a God, and show no magical abilities. This would be your standard cows, daffodils, and human neighbors. Some are created in alignment with a God or two, and naturally Channel their God. This would be elementals, faeries, and Hounds. There are those who chose to align themselves, and learn the art of Channeling to grow their powers. These beings are Witches. There is a final sort of being, the Celestial Races, who serve directly under a God and live in the God's Realm.   A word on Souls: Each being contains a Soul. It is bound to the realm that the body is bound to. If the body is on Earth (buried, cremated, left to rot, anywhere on Earth), the Soul will be reincarnated indefinitely on Earth. If the body is bound to Earth, there are two circumstances that would prevent reincarnation. 1.) The Soul remains bound to the body after death. The Soul may become unbound to the body, or remain with it forever. 2.) The Soul has been Removed from the cycle and destroyed. In unique cases, the harm a single individual causes triggers the total destruction of the Soul. Since reincarnation is seen as giving the Soul another change to be better, or simply different, one that has been too terrible is deemed unworthy of another chance. The body may, however, be unbound by a God who chooses to bind the body instead to their Realm, and take custody of the Soul.
