Balkan Ascetics

Balkan Ascetics reside all throughout the Balkan peninsula, but have made their homes and monasteries deep in the Balkan mountains. An interesting side-effect of the random nature of magical properties and abilities have made the families of the Balkan Ascetics (families run monasteries, all forming a cohesive culture and religion but distinct personalities and worldview). Balkan Ascetics have their mix of Astral Self families, Long Death and Sun Soul. The world has taken on some Giver vibes, with people gifted with magic often following their talents to the highest of their order. Others with less defined skill, less opportunity, end up working in magic factories producing magical commodities.
The ascetics live a very spartan lifestyle. Some families are very invested in the outside communities, coming down to participate in trade, support, and to host cultural and recreational events. The Frozen Fist Ascetics host a winter games each year. Other families live deep in the mountains completely removed and self-sufficient. But however they interact with the outer world, all families live materially bare lives. Most Ascetic families do treat themselves to elaborate, techno-magical monasteries, treating the maintenance and continual changing of them as a spiritual calling.
Treehouses, pathways and swings, all glowing with the fireflys feeding on the magically cultivated vines and moss making up their buildings. Upside-down stone towers, bannerettes, lining the underbelling of cliffs high in the Balkan mountains. Wind blows through the towers, like giant windchimes (I might have remembered this from somewhere, doing my research) each create their own tone. One family, practicing the Drunken Way, live essentially (but not literally) underwater. With access only from magical underground entrances the hollowed-out mountains surrounding the Plitvice Lakes the Shaiyda Ascetics live. The 'caves' they live in are airy and open, from the inside their genius with plantlife is evident. Massive trees, root systems and other flora wind around windows, house ventilation tunnels and form complex and multilayered rooves. From the outside, they are only mountains, and from inside there isn't even a subterranean hint on the air.
