Cristen Young is the first Catgirl, and daughter of Catwoman (Selina Kyle) and Carter Hatchet (Tal-Kor of Lioton). Carter was raised on Lioton, a sister planet of Krypton. But upon Krypton's destruction, he and his family were forced to retreat to Earth for safety of the debris. He was raised on Earth and had been hiding his identity the entire time, before he encountered Selina and the two had a night together that brought Cristen into the world.
Cris wasn't born in Gotham. But she grew up there, beginning in an orphanage where she had grown to be inspired by heroes. When she escaped at the age of 10 after the death of her charge Reyna, Cristen dedicated herself to learning how to be a hero on Gotham's streets. Here, Cris joined a fight club, which she both learned how to fight and control her abilities in, and took down with the help of G.C.P.D. Officer Sayo Leto. Leto began to train Cris in her own time. Upon Leto's death, Cristen decided it was time to take final tests before she became a vigilante. During one of these tests, Cristen discovers her mother is Catwoman. Selina delivers Cristen to the Young Family and trains her with Lady Shiva. Later, Cristen wears the mantle of Catgirl and begins fighting alongside other heroes.
Notably, she forms an alliance with Robin (Damian Wayne). Damian partners with her in order to see if she is "worthy" of wearing a title, and Cristen partners with him to gain more experience and access to the superhero community. Batman and Catwoman assign them the (seemingly small) task of dealing with these wild street children. Batman suspects they are under drugging influence and possibly escaping capture from someone. This turns out to be incorrect, as Robin and Catgirl unveil a plot by the organization known as P.R.I.N.T.E.R. (Process of Ressurection, Involving Nanotechnology Tactically Establishing Reflections) to conquer the world by cloning government officials. With the help of other heroes, they take down PRINTER for good.
With these heroes (Superboy, Nobody, Awe, Supergirl, Robin, Catgirl, Velocity, and Aquagirl), Batman forms a subsidiary of the Justice League, which Supergirl affectionately coins as "Young Justice". They receive missions from Red Hood and occasionally Batman, are lead by Awe, working out of Superboy and Robin's "Fortress of Attitude". Robin, Catgirl, and Superboy each work as only part-time members—both Superboy and Catgirl work with Robin on their own, but they occasionally work together and call themselves The Outsiders. Or, as Catgirl primarily leads the operations, Catgirl and The Outsiders.

Mental Trauma

Cristen has lost many close to her (Reyna, Sayo, Lauren, Lance), and is therefore terrified of losing her loved ones and is incredibly protective, but still keeps her distance. She also grew up believing that her parents no longer wanted her, and thus is terrified of being abandoned.

Intellectual Characteristics

Cristen wants to be a detective when she is older, and was trained under Lance (a G.C.P.D. Third Class detective), Lady Shiva, Selina Kyle, Damian Wayne, and Bruce Wayne in the art of deduction and detective work. Although she does not voice this, she is fairly logical.
