Wansui Longevity Hospital (Wànsuì/ /lônˈjevədē/ häˌspidl/)

Greater Lagos, Earth

History

In the Early 21st Century, the government of the PRC (People's Republic of China) focused their investment efforts on the continent of Africa as a part of a new program . Already being the second largest city in Africa, Lagos has received special interest from Chinese investors. Although much of the investment had to deal with public projects in the city, spreading Chinese influence attracted the attention of companies in the private sector of China. The Qiannian Medical Innovation Co. (QMIC) was among the many groups of private investors to open up branches in Lagos. The Wansui Longevity Hospital (Formerly known as Qiannian Lagos Hospital) is named after the nickname of the former founder of QMIC "Wansui Jiang" (His original name being 'Dahai Jiang'). Due to its proximity to Eko Atlantic, the hospital mostly catered to the rich and other investors that were living in the city at the time.   **Etymology Note: "Wansui" is the Chinese Word generally referring to "Ten Thousand Years" , a term associated with a long life. "Qian nian/qiān nián" translates to one thousand years, possibly noting the company's abition to stay afloat for a long time or the anti-aging technology it creates. The founder's nickname is given due to his contribution towards anti-aging technologies.

Current Services

In accordance with the Hospital's name, Wansui focuses on providing services that will help increase an individual's life-span. The hospital utilizes nanotechnology, antidioxant treatments, and current medications for conditions such as Dementia to help maximize the lifespan of it's patients. However, the hospital is still versatile in many areas of the medical field. For its younger patients, studies conducted by the QMIC are used to create detailed (but expensive) programs that can help improve an individual's diet, physical wellbeing, and mental health.

Atmosphere and Appearance

Clients at the Wansui Longevity Hospital might note the the antiquated atmosphere and the ridiculous amount of old people in the building. The building is 30 stories tall, making it a tiny bit taller than other hospitals in the region. Unfortunately, it's architecture is mostly agreed to be an eyesore. Resembling the monotonous Chinese high rise buildings of the 21st century, the hospital's dull beige appearance ironically makes it stand out from the intricate buildings that surround it. Inside, the furniture and architecture seem to be outdated and far from anything seen in the late 22nd century in order to relieve the nostalgia of its elderly patients. (It resembles the massive sprawl of rushed buildings in the early years of Lagos.) In contrast, the staff and technology that the hospital uses may be actually described as "23rd century level services and technology" (A bit weird, considering the setting takes place 2 years from the 23rd century). On the roof of the building, the hospital possesses a helipad for emergency situations and VIP guests. Nevertheless, although the hospital is often noted as #1, its failure to serve the majority of the population has deprived it of expanding its services.

**Spoilers:Demise

Following the Breach Of Lagos, the hospital was subsequently destroyed after the first wave. It's old architecture and lack of safety features made the foundations of the building prone to damage. With the building's 100+ year age being a factor, the tsunami that ensued the breach toppled the building in seconds. Now, in the chaos of what was once Lagos, Wansui Longevity Hospital lays collapsed across a street, perhaps a destroyed tribute to Lagos' early years.
