People are taught about bonding and Bondmates from very early on. For some countries, it is stated on your birth certificate if the person has the gene to have a bondmate (i.e. be able to bond.)
Only about 2.3 million people in the world carry the gene to bond. The percent drastically decreased in the 14th century and then started to increase in the 15th century once people started getting tested for it.
