Since the beginning of documentation and the written word, people have been documenting magic and the supernatural. In this world, those are real. However, approaching the year 2020, the number of supernatural sightings and magic uses decreased to almost zero. In the wake of the loss of magic, technological innovation soared, and in the year 2043, roboticists created fully sentient robots. Meanwhile, magic users have been limited to powerful wizards and their apprentices, adding up to about 300 people.
