Ageless Tower of Tiham Building / Landmark in Ealdwyll | World Anvil

Ageless Tower of Tiham

The Ageless Tower of Tiham is one of the seven towers left behind by the Forgotten on the continent of West Eghea. After The Pulse new cities rose up around these towers. Tiham is one of these cities, but unlike the other cities their tower is not owned by the government. Instead it became the headquarters for the Order of Numbers over two-thousand years ago.

Purpose

Original Purpose

It appears the original purpose of the tower was to have a central place for the study of mathematics and geometry. Some scholars belief it might have been some sort of university where students would come to learn about their field of study. Upon its rediscovery hundreds of thousands of manuscripts were discovered within the tower. Thanks to them much of the knowledge lost due to the Pulse was regained much faster than without them.

Current Purpose

Since the Order of Numbers moved into the Tower of Tiham over two-thousand years ago they somehow gained ownership and full control over it. No one knows exactly how this happened or why the government would give up ownership of this large source of knowledge. With the Tower the Order of Numbers holds all this knowledge in their hands. No one can access these manuscripts and books without permission from the Order. Mathematicians and scholars from all over the world come to Tiham to study the documents and books within the tower.

Architecture

Like many other ageless structures the Tower of Tiham is built from a stone that has a pale golden color with golden specks. Where this material once came from is unknown. Scholars belief that this stone was quarried so much in ancient times that there are no places left where it can be found. Except on the Ageless structures. The tower itself is massive and round. About 355 metres high and a diameter of 120 meters on ground level. As it goes up the diameter gets smaller at different heights. [Better description follows when I have it figured out.]

Ageless Towers

The ageless towers of West Eghea are buildings left over from a time long ago. They are called ageless because they are untouched by time. Nothing can damage them. They show no erosion and were not damaged by The Pulse. It is believed they were built by the Forgotten. A mysterious humanoid species that lived on Ealdwyll long ago and became extinct thousands of years ago. What makes these towers even more special is that each one seem to have had its own purpose. The ancient technology and knowledge discovered in these towers had a great influence on how the world developed after the Pulse.

I like that it is ageless and how well it fits into your world :)

Neat stuff. I was left wondering if there are other structures left from the forgotten, aside from the ageless towers...

There are indeed. I need to make an introduction article for the ageless structures still. That should explain a bit more.

This is so, so good.   So given the towers were for the study of mathematics and geometry. Did they study any celestial movements? Just from what you've described it seems ideal for this!

Thank you. :) Each tower has its own purpose. So there is indeed an astronomers tower in Mehrula. That article has not been written yet though. For 3 of the 7 towers I know what their purpose is. For the others I still got to decide. I know they are all connected to some sort of knowledge and/or technology.

Love the concept of this! I'm wondering where you are going with the tapering shape of the tower - whether it's an architectural feature or perhaps the tower itself is some sort of instrument with a function... if I was adventuring in your world, I'd be researching the ageless structures and be after a map that shows where they all are. Your world really makes me think and come up with questions. It would be a fantastic place for a campaign :)

It made my little academic heart sing when you said a bunch of documents were found preserved in the tower. Yay for knowledge! :D

Thank you. There are ancient documents in many parts of my world. :)
