Eroklos of Myrnia

The stoa was overfull. The hot Opaline sun baked the fish stalls lower on the island, and the ocean breeze carried the salty stench of the markets and docks to the old temple grounds. Eroklos emerged, wooden diadem polished and light-catching amidst his dark curls. Shouts -- admiration and admonition -- arose from the crowd. He adjusted his pale green cloak, and his pale blue eyes glared out at the crowd. "You come here to hear." His voice carried authority and gravity. It lulled the crowd with its conviction. "Our gods have slept long enough. For thousands of years --thousands!-- we have seen new gods born from the minds of men. These new gods have walked the earth. These new gods have dallied with mortals. New gods gave us magic and new gods have taken it away, hidden it in towers and far-off lands. New gods took from us the empire that was ours by right. Our gods have slept for long enough. Come, family! It is time now to communicate with our gods -- with the old gods."
Eroklos's life before his rise to prominence is uncertain. He first began his quest to reinvigorate old Lymian traditions in the Scuton Sea, traveling from island to island. He spoke to the islanders of Lymian history, of the old, old empire that once ran from horizon to horizon. Eroklos saw Lymians suffering, caught between three giants. He began receiving nocturnal visions, visitations from the Lymian deities of old.

Eroklos has no illusions regarding his role. He is not a hero. He is a mouthpiece of the gods, and an instigator. If the Lymian people are swayed by his words and deeds, if they reclaim their destiny, it will be their actions and the will of the gods that determine the outcome, not the words of a single man. Nonetheless, Eroklos has a possessing charisma and skill for oratory steeled by conviction and utmost belief. His interpretation of history is creative but inspiring.
