The Language of the Eillori Atmar

The New Language

Common sayings and idioms that the Eillori use:
  • "It was written in his blood" - It was fate
  • Comes from the fact that the Father of Destruction is supposed to be able to see the fates of people by the color of their blood.
  • "That wasn't what his blood told me" - That wasn't what I had expected
  • Related to the one above. This saying is however mostly used by the younger generation, as some older Eillori find it offensive, as you are in some ways implying that you have the same powers as the holy Father of Destruction.
  • "Back when the dragons were free" - a long, long time ago
  • Currently dragons are very rare in the wild. Instead dragons are used as a resource of the empire, as has been the case for a long time. This saying is often used as a beginning for a story or tale, instead once upon a time. But watch out! If an empire-loyalist hears this they might look at it as a betrayal as it shows discontent with how the empire runs things. Contrary to the saying above, this expression is very popular with the older generations.
  • "Holy Mother of Peas!", "Holy Father of Snakes!" and anything else of that sort - exclamation to show one's astonishment.
  • Refers of course to the Mother of Life and the Father of Destruction. Used as a sort of swearword as in Holy shit, or fuck my life, or other such expressions. Again this is mainly used by younger people, as most older people see it as highly disrespectful.
  • "To see a Sister without her braid is like seeing her with her soul tied up in her fingernail."

The Old Tongue

Currently the Eillori Atmar speak the same language as empire, after having been pressured by it's control for centuries. Only the well-educated now learn the Old Tongue, but as it is regarded as a sacred language and it is believed that it's words connect you to the world of nature, most people who speak it take great pride in it, and some parents even teach it to their children, but if you want success in the world beyond the Atmars borders, you need to speak the Empire's language.
