The Bokelberg family and relatives
The Bokelberg family love and live in Dresden since the 1920s. Dresden? You stop and wonder what the hell does this have to do with Elaqitan? Yes, perhaps you, as an attentive reader, are right. Dresden is at least one world away from Elaqitan. Nevertheless, this is where the story begins (see Prologue) and hopefully the children of the whole family will be able to save our Elaqitans after their journey through a mirror gate.
Bokelberg family:
Clara and Moritz Bokelberg are twin siblings aged 12. In their class, they are considered lovable nerds because their knowledge is far ahead of their classmates. They have Marie Curie and Albert Einstein as role models and naturally want to follow in their footsteps later on. Clara is more inquisitive than her brother and reads constantly and everywhere. Moritz, on the other hand, loves adventures.
Moritz and Clara's parents are Amalia and Franz Bokelberg. Amalia, born Princess of Marinau-Flüsterburg, was rejected by her family after entering into an unsuitable marriage to Franz. Apart from a few old photos and some small family heirlooms, she has nothing more to expect from her family. Franz tries everything so that she is not reminded of her past.
Moritz, Clara, Franz and Amalia Bokelberg live together with Alfred and Charlotte Bokelberg in a three-room attic apartment just outside the city. Alfred discovered a small antique shop in Dresden before World War II. Here Alfred and Charlotte buy the book of fairy tales as a Christmas present for their grandchildren, which is how the story begins.
Amalia's mother, Cecilia, died during birth to her youngest daughter, Sophia, when Amalia was 13 years old. Her father - Nepomuk Prince of Marinau-Flüsterburg - receives the news that an old family heirloom is no longer in his family's hands and then travels to the Bokelbergs to confront his daughter. Does he have a secret?
Amnitz family:
Seraphine - Baronesse von Amnitz - is the great cousin of Clara and Moritz and spends the Christmas holidays with the Bokelbergs. She is 15 years old and has a fondness for old texts. Seraphine speaks fluently Latin and Ancient Greek and is familiar with ancient scripts. Can she help Clara and Moritz to decode the book of fairy tales?
Henrietta was fortunate that her parents, the Counts von Knopf zu Tüpfelstein, financed her studies in history and archeology with plenty of money. There she met Ludwig - Baron von Amnitz. Both are explorers, constantly traveling the world to discover ancient cultures. Seraphine therefore lives with her grandmother on a country estate in West Germany.
At Christmas, Charlotte's sister Adelheid - Countess von Knopf zu Tüpfelstein - visits the family. Charlotte, too, could have had a better future as Baroness von der Hagerlohe, which her sister, as a countess, keeps rubbing in her face. Her husband Hubert, who was stationed as a general in Brittany during World War II, died in the Battle of Rennes in August 1944.
