Juroh Settlement in Dying World of Cealla | World Anvil

Juroh

Overview

The third city on the isle of Lif, Juroh has always been the rougher counterpart to Balma Plain and the Hollow, which is a testament to just how hard the people of Juroh truly are. Home to many of the larger crime syndicates operating our of the Hollow, Juroh is a strange mix of rustic aesthetics and brutal crime. The income disparity of Juroh is the first thing one notices, unlike the Hollow which contains such a jarring mixture of wealth and rags from street to street, as Juroh's wealth is spread wide through the center of the city, with the surrounding sprawl being just that. The poor of Juroh has a difficult life, the lands not nearly as fertile as Balma Plain or Emburt, and the seas not as bountiful as near the Hollow or Maller's Gap. Because of this, the people of Juroh are well accustomed to fending for themselves, either for their families or on behalf of the larger syndicates. As expected for a city like Juroh, it is famed for its huntsman, weaponsmiths, and mercenaries. Many mercenary bands have gotten their start in Juroh, and some of the highest quality weapons, including firearms, are built within Juroh's walls. From a governmental perspective, the city stands in contrast to the Hollow just as Balma Plain. The city hosts mayoral elections every year, with the largest crime syndicates' representative coincidentally also winning every associated election. Today, and for the last forty-five years, the Orien family has controlled Juroh with an iron fist, and the same mayor, Toriol Orien has run the city.
