Liasnyks Ethnicity in Duurn | World Anvil

Liasnyks

The liasnyks are an ethnic group in northeastern Griza, indigenous to the Grizan forest region. They have been at odds with the Grizan state for many years, as their cultural practices run against the industrialization programs and modernization of Griza. As a result, Griza has put extensive effort into molding and diminishing Liasnyk culture.   Shortly before the Last War, a liasnyk Nikibosiyk assassinated Emperor Ourada of Griza, rending him with magic, as he gave a speech in front of the summer palace. Danek Ourada, the son of the late emperor, took the throne. In the aftermath of the assassination, Liasnyk homes were burned, many were killed, and Griza began to separate Liasnyks, forcing them into isolated communities, under the pretense of protection. Many Liasnyks fought back, and the whole conflict, still ongoing, is called the Grizan Storms.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Liasnyks believe themselves to be a bridge between the supernatural and a natural. They value a closeness to the world around them, as part of a symbiotic relationship among all things.

Major organizations

The Nikibosiyk, literally translating to "dead men," is not an organization, in the traditional sense, as there are no leaders or structure. It is more of a tactic of resistance against the enemies of the Liasnyk, a total devotion to resistance, to the degree that each Nikibosiyk considers themselves already dead. This strain of rebellion was born within the last few decades of Grizan rule, a reaction to the brutal repression of the Liasnyks. It is often compared to other strains of nihilist politics, such as the Fadawi Naqiu (Pure Anarchists) of Halar.
