Keriyan
"Our power has diminished, but our pride stays strong" - Emperthri Jethri
Summary
Keriyan is an imperial nation located in the southwest of Pearmund. Originally a feudalistic nation, it became imperial upon the rise of the leader Teri. With a mostly human population and Kutandor cutting off it's communications with the other nations, Keriyan is one of the most isolated nations. Because of this, it's military and economic power are unknown to outsiders.Social Factors
Keriyan has a very strict religion, which protects the hierarchy from too much movement. Not only this, but to keep heritage the legislation and rules are both sexist and classist. Many suspect this is because of the influence hobgoblins had to the imperial rise. Besides having a strict religion and laws, the Keriyan valued vassals instead of mercenaries during their Feudalistic history. Even when they are united under imperial rule, Keriyan still holds some of those vassals to this day.Political History
Originally a series of kingdoms, they unified in order to protect themselves from the imperial hobgoblins who started a massive conquest southward. Though they eventually wiped out the majority of the hobgoblin population, they adopted a political system and set of laws similar to them. After that, a series of Emperthri (leaders) increased the tensions between the kingdoms resulting in a disastrous civil war, which only ended 150 years before present day. Now, many of the citizens question if imperialism is as good as the Emperthri say it is.Interactions
Keriyan is actually the most indifferent to Kutandor. Due to a treaty from 30 years ago, the Ekkoans agreed to leave Keriyan alone as long as they collected a tax annually from half of the land of Keriyan. Besides this, Keriyan have no real enemies, but no firm allies either. Besides interactions with other empires, they have one of the most varied environments in the continent, from pine forests, to mountains, to plains, to beaches, to bamboo forests. This varied terrain means no two villages from Keriyan are the same, and really the imperialism is the only thing keeping Keriyan together. UPDATE: KUTANDOR WENT BACK ON THEIR PROMISECultural Factors
Keriyan originally had two major religions, one being that of a broad pantheon, and the other a guide to achieving spiritual peace (Kerinism). However, once imperial they turned Kerinism into the official religion. This was more a political play than a cultural one, as it was a safer religion to keep the crowds more controlled, whilst also allowing the citizens to believe in miracles. Besides this, monasteries and temples have been constructed all over the country side.Economic History
Keriyan is very isolated, and because of this they don't engage in too much trade. However, during the rule of their Emperthri Jamiya, they became a huge exporter of textiles and spices. Jamiya's rule eventually became a dynasty of flourishing trade, which only stopped when Kutandor blocked their land trade routes, and formed a navy.Technological History
Under the rule of Emperthri Jemithri, the Keriyan kingdoms developed the modern-day calendar. Along with that, they have developed many siege weapons for advanced warfare, and agricultural advancements to farm upon mountains (terraced farming). They also have advanced printing techniques and created a type of boat known as a gheu.Footnotes
Hobgoblin war camps are scattered throughout the terrain. If there is hobgoblin ancestry, it will be hidden or you have the potential to be imprisoned. Crimes are carried through ancestors. For example, if your grandfather commits a crime and dies, your father will be charged the same sentence. Their justice system gets even more confusing, but this is the quick summary.
