Captain (a.k.a. Grim Reaper)
None on the high seas are more feared than the Grim Reaper himself. The Bregritopia Empire alone has a 100,000 gold bounty on his head. He and his crew have mercilessly preyed upon all matters of countries, guilds, and even other pirates. To give you an idea of this man, listen to the recounting of how he recovered his mother's ship after discovering news of his mother's demise at the hands of her crew.
Salem put together a band of friends and colleagues he made over the years quickly and bought a small ship with all the money he had. Within a month of setting sail they caught The Red Scorpion. They struck aggressively at the much larger and better-armed ship, Salem at the helm and his crew waiting below. The small sailing ship closed the gap quickly between the ships. His vessel took a few major hits, but it mattered not. As they crashed into the Scorpion, the crew flew from their position onto the other ship in a flash. As his ship started to sink into the depths, Salem and his crew were slaughtering the crew. By the time his ship had disappeared beneath the waves, He had the captain, Sgt at Arms, and first mate in chains in front of him. They trembled in the massive pool of blood on the deck, waiting for Salem to decide their fate. He spins around, looking them in the eyes, telling them the depths have sealed their fate. He proceeds to grab the chains dragging them to the rear of the ship. Once there, his crew linked the three together with a length of strong chain. They then proceeded to wrap the chain through the ship's anchor chain. With one last look, the Red Scorpion's new captain turns and pulls the anchor's lever. A loud crash is overheard as the men are pulled from the deck by the anchor. When the chain had gone down about fifty feet, or so he stops it and then tells his crew to set sail for the nearest port.
They arrive at Kipstall Port a week later. He finally raises the anchor so the men can remove what is remaining of the three. The entire port watched in horror seeing the three men in various degrees of decay. One looked like a shark had made a snack of him. He has his crew clear the ship of the dead onboard as well. The sickening smell of the rotting corpses filled the city quickly. After goading by the rulers, the city guard moved in to stop Salem's activity. Salem took great offense to this, and he and his crew quickly dispatched the guards 50 men. Furious, he sends his crew out to the night to capture and bring the cities leaders and families to him.
By dawn, all his men return with their task completed with alive or dead. The rest of the citizens watched from afar, fearful of their own lives. Salem announced himself loudly and the Grim Reaper the harbinger of death. He expresses his anger by grabbing a council member and pulling him off the ground by his neck. He yells, "This is what happens to those that oppose me." He proceeds to break his neck and throw the lifeless body in front of his family. He then has his men take all the remaining leaders and string them together into a large group. They drag their prisoners down to the docks. The leaders are hoisted into the air over the water. Salem and his men proceeded to do things to the leaders' families that cannot be spoken in even impolite company. The blood of the families turned the bay red, attracting many sharks by nightfall. Finished finally with the families, they then drop the grieving survivors into the bay to be devoured.
Before leaving, he leaves a final warning of running the three mutineers up the town's flag mast for all to see. The rest of the city was abandoned soon after. This retelling comes thanks to various sources, some of which are close to the captain.

Personal history
Salem was born on the high seas. I mean literally, he was born on a pirate vessel during a raid on another ship. His mother was the Master of arms onboard The Howling Scorn. Amid battle on board another ship, her water broke. She fought her way back to her boat, fighting the contractions as well as sailors. When she arrived on the vessel, she grabbed the cabin girl and went to her chambers. Before long, she emerged again, now several pounds lighter. She went on to take the ship. In honor of her battle, her captain gave her the captured ship. She later renamed the ship the Red Scorpion with Salem taking it in her death.
Employment
He started his career as a cabin boy to his mother. When he was a teenager he left his mothers ship to find his own way. He bounced from crew to crew learning everything he could and training himself to be the best swordsman. Til finally he ended up the captain of his mother's ship.
