Simmered Moon Cakes

Simmered moon cakes are pastries resembling scones, baked with River Sours and the swollen blossoms of the Moon Ginger plant, known only to the borders of, and within, the elven lands. Everything is prepared by hand, and while common in Irelona and Y'dorei, the pastries are rare and hard to come by during the reign of Omeron Sterling, AKA the Mad Tyrant, the one responsible for the feigned death of Emeric the Unyielding, the true king. 
Flaky, buttery, the pastries have bits of the river sours fruit within, and somehow retain their warmth for an entire day, their softness until they're eaten. Chefs and bakers will say it is because of the stasis properties of the Moon Ginger blossoms, which has been accepted as fact among the elven community. Most who are able to taste these pastries find them to be quite pleasing, especially on chilled mornings with a hot beverage. They are sweet, but not overly so, the buttery crust adding balance to the morsels which are about the size of the palm of your hand. The recipe is as follows:

- Simmered Moon Cakes Recipe - (Units of measurement are Imperial, as the measurement method for Dremeira is still being determined)

- Yields approximately 4 cakes -

- 4 cups corn flour 

- .25 cup natural sugar

- .25 tsp salt

- 2 tsp baking powder

- 2 tsp yeast

2 cups river sour berries

.5 cup Moon Ginger blossoms (fresh)

.5 cup butter (softened)

Cooking methods and times will vary depending on the quality of oven a citizen will possess. Most use stone or brick, while others have taken to making these treats in heavy iron pans which they cover to circulate heat. Pastries will be finished when the outer crust is golden, and the Moon Ginger blossoms sparkle. It gives the cakes the appearance of a golden triangle laden with diamonds.

Significance

A staple one never truly thinks about until they've discovered such a pastry. When in the elven communities, most can be seen having one as a dessert or small breakfast item. In other areas of the world, they're given as special gifts for birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. Some even give them to significant others in displays of affection.
