Cadroan (Kuh Drow In)

Basic Information

Anatomy

Cadroan are very similar in anatomy to Adult Red Dragons, as they have four limbs, two front, and two back, large wings, scaled skin, and a long tail. The main difference however, is the Cadroans have adapted to the large deserts of Bazvaal and in turn have adjusted scale color and shape to represent cacti. They also have bulbous tails, and long white spines that run all over their body (females spines are typically longer and sharper).

Genetics and Reproduction

Cadroan males in the summer mating season develop bright orange patterns along their wings and heads which are used to attract female Cadroan during mating season. Female Cadroan shake their cacti like spines to show attraction and affection. They then mate and within the next few days, the female lays between one to four eggs. These are buried deep into the sand and males guard the eggs until fall and they hatch, then they move on. The female provides for the hatchlings until the Cadroan children can provide on their own.
The bright orange patterns on the males fade after summer, showing that mating season is over.

Growth Rate & Stages

Cadroan eggs are buried deep in the sand. The first thing hatchlings do is dig out of it and emerge to see their mothers. Cadroan hatchlings scales are soft at a young age and they lack their cacti like spines, these grow at maturity. Scales harden as they get older, and their wings get larger, until they can fly, then Cadroan mothers leave their young to survive on their own. Cadroan take about one hundred and fifty years to fully mature. This is represented by their spines emerging out of their body. From here, Cadroan age and get older until they die from natural causes around one thousand years.

Ecology and Habitats

Cadroan are native to Bazvaal. They thrive is dry arid locations, typically large deserts such as The Shifting Sands. Cadroan camoflauge themselves by sinking themselves into sand and stay wary of their surroundings using their hypersensitive spines to detect tremors.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Cadroan have adapted to the scarcity of prey in the desert, typically only needing to eat once a week, and when they do, its usally just antelopes, camels, or anything they can find. Humans are sometimes eaten, but Cadroan have shown to dislike the taste, only eating humans or humanoids when extremely starved. Cadroan have also evolved to have reservoirs of water in throat pouches due to how rare water in in the deserts of Bazvaal.

Biological Cycle

In the summer mating season, Cadroan males gain bright orange patterns along their wings and heads to attract female Cadroan to mate with them. These patterns fade as the season ends.

Behaviour

Cadroan are seen to be very food motivated, usually not seeming very intelligent. They usually wait for prey to come close to them when camouflaged, or grab them while flying and eat them immediately. They communicate with other Cadroan through rattling their spines in certain patterns and such, it is not yet known how they communicate with this.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Cadroan are coveted for their water pouch lining due to its waterproof trait which are used for waterpouches, raintarps, etc.. Their armor like scale plates are also sought out due to its durable nature. These plates are usally used for armor, massive hunts being issued everytime war is issued.

Facial characteristics

Cadroan faces are usually very flat with several spines running along the brow, with bright orange eyes protruding out from under them. Their jaws are extremely strong and pronounced. Males have four horns, two running from just above the brow, and a second pair just above the jaw. Females just have the two above the brow.

Average Intelligence

Cadroan are shown to not be very intelligent, but have been observed to use their own language called spinerattle. They have very good survival instinct and knowledge of the desert to know whats easy to hunt and whats harder.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Cadroan usually have extremely good eyesight, easily distinguishing even the smallest of camoflauged creatures against the Bazvaalian landscape. They also are extremely good at sensing vibrations far away and deep into the world, due to their sensitive spines that come off of their body, which also have many other purposes.
