Dragons of Night Meta

Motivation

I love dark, urban fantasy, if that is even the right world for it. Magic and mystery just out of reach of the average person is fun and in some ways reflects the genuine nature of the world. While I don’t believe dragons and wizards roam the shadows, but most of life operates in various subcultures just out of the view of the average person on the street.

Genre

This is the hardest thing for me to lock down. My goal is to craft something between dark fantasy, urban fantasy, and supernatural romance. The world is inspired by book series like The Vampire Chronicles, The Sookie Stackhouse books, The Dresden Files, and Harry Potter, shows like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries, and so many others of this type. None of these are an analogue for the work that I am doing, and they aren’t exactly comp titles, but if there is a genre that contains them all, then that genre is the one.

Scale

While I have a lot of ideas for the world and need to discuss some aspects of world history to establish the setting, the vast majority of the stories will take place in Blackwood County, Avalon which is situated in Maryland in the USA and its counterpart region in the Otherworld.

Mood

Nobel Gray- Character sacrifices have the potential to create long-lasting benefits for the world, but the world itself has issues that complicates the lives of the characters in it.

Theme

The world is full of wonder and horror. Often it is our perspective that determines which is which. True love conquers all because friendly, familial, compassionate, romantic, and erotic love will always unite people stronger than hate or fear ever can.

Conflict

The Elders have numerous conflicts among themselves and with the human population.

This article is not where I want it to be, but it is a start to collect my ideas and focus them to get the world built. It will be updated often.
