Pen Prison

The pen is a prison for magical users that can’t be contained any other way. They are shrunk down into the head of the pen, which looks like a miniature scepter. They are sentenced based on their crime. Or, it is used to capture people with magic. You can channel their magic when holding the pen. It can be crafted by Elves or Sorcerors. Maybe purchase on a magical black market. They are illegal. It takes a lot of power to hold onto one. It can consume you if you don’t have a lot of control over your own magic. They are not meant for public writing tools. Only the master sorcerers should have them. They do not have to be a pen, but it is tradition. The person who originally created the pen prison liked the idea of sitting the pens in a cup on his desk where he could keep them in his sights all day. He also liked being able to put the pen in his shirt pocket. It was something of a form of torture for them to be toted wherever he wanted and have to witness life while stuck inside of a pen. Also, the way they are captured is by using the pen prison to carve a magical rune into their skin. It doesn’t actually touch them. It is more like a laser, but the magic is focused on the skin and tattooing it with the rune. Each rune is slightly different, made specifically by the magic of the pen prison to bind them to that pen. The person is held down in chains or shackles while this happens. Then, a master sorcerer holds the pen, says a spell, and it draws their magical essence into the pen. Their body is either preserved or magically completely turned into the essence that gets drawn into the pen. A master sorcerer could actually wield their magic when holding the pen, but it takes a very strong sorcerer to do so. It takes a lot of energy and focus to force the magic out when it doesn’t belong to you. Most likely, that person’s essence will fight against you and it is draining. This power can be abused. A person could want to use your magic, and somehow frame you and get you locked up so they have a chance to use your magic. Also, there are people who make this and sell them on the magical black market. They don’t work as well and are usually unstable and unpredictable, but people try to use them to be able to capture someone and use their magic. It can lead to the user harming themself in the process.
