Sibling's Sundering

The Sibling's Sundering was a catastrophic event in which the the Siblings were torn apart, and mountains grew along them, dividing the islands and cutting nations and cities alike in half.

Legend says that in the days of dragons, the dragonkin had a massive empire spanning across the entirety of the Siblings, ruled by a powerful family. In this family there were twins, Swift Stormbringer and Dreck Stormbringer. Swift, being the older of the two, by mere minutes, was destined to inherit the lands from her mother, but her brother Dreck did not agree. Dreck believed Swift a weak ruler, and demanded that she renounce her claim so that he might become the next emperor of the Siblings. Upon their mother's death, violence broke out between them. Swift, outnumbered by Dreck's soldiers, fled to the western continent, while Dreck took total control of the east. Swift sought help from the dragons, for it was they who gave the dragonkin the ability to rule, and it was they who could save her from her brother's terror. They told Swift she is to rule the Siblings, and with this word the dragons took Swift to meet her brother at the throne.

Dreck was not pleased to hear what the dragons had said, and his men sided with Swift. He was exiled from the capital city, and life appeared to move on as normal. Several months later during the coronation of Swift Stormbringer, Dreck snuck into the city with his most trusted warriors, and charged into the castle while it was open. Confusion and mass hysteria ensued, Dreck and his men murdered hundreds of civilians and Stormbringer soldiers in their quest to get to the Empress Swift. The dragons, who were present for the coronation per tradition, demanded Dreck put an end to his terror, incinerating his soldiers and leaving him one man surrounded by hundreds of enemies. The Stormbringers had ancient, powerful blood, the dragons were not allowed to kill them. But the same could not be said for the dragons. Dreck, instead of surrendering, killed the two dragons presiding over the coronation, Dracynian and Anscillon, their dying screams could be heard for hundreds of miles. 

The dragon elders knew what had happened, and so they determined it was time to end the reign of dragonkin. With great stomps of their feet they made the earth shake, a violent earthquake spread across the Siblings, the ground began to split, mountains forced their way out of the ground. The lands once united under a single rule were torn asunder, cities shattered by quakes or engulfed by the land. The capital city collapsed around the Stormbringer twins, they watched as their empire fell apart around them. Once the sundering was complete, all the remaining dragons took flight and left the Siblings, they were never seen again.
Swift killed Dreck with her own hands, cursing him in his last moments to forever walk the between worlds.

In the end the Siblings were split apart and each split into two sections, the western sibling was granted warmth and prosperity, whereas the east was cursed with endless cold and death, farming could not occur, animals could hardly survive, dragonkin fled in droves to the west, trying to flee the harsh climate that the dragons had cursed them with. The popular rumor is that the dragons aren't the ones who left the land cursed with cold and death, but the very curse that Swift put upon her brother, it is said that during eclipses his voice can be heard echoing across the tundra.

It is unknown how much of this legend is true, if any. The dragonkin are long from the Siblings, all that remains of them are the grandiose legends of their splendor, elegance, and valor.
