Way of the Gun

The name of the game is to be the guy with the gun when the shouting is over and the shooting’s begun. Has been that way since the civilization died and the tough took over. Maybe you started life as an enforcer, protecting the wealthy on your way to becoming obsolete; maybe you have former military training and a strict code of being the guy that shoots first when necessary. Either way, the likelihood that you will survive in the outlands is pretty slim, because everybody is packing, and you may not always be the one awake, at large, and in charge. So you cover your exits until you find the right kind of a cause that you can believe in, or you hire on as muscle for a couple of jobs with reasonable rates of return. Either way, the hard life of keeping your powder dry and your weapons loaded with live ammo can be either a great walk in the park or a really bad day at Black Rock. Make the right moves, and you could become a legend. Or a bloody corpse.

Soldier

A trained killer. Cool, calm, collected with a will to kill. Soldiers can be commercially driven and mercenary, or an idealist who is True Believer. Though most Gunners are, well, armed with guns, a soldier might have dozens of different ways to fight, weapons to deploy, strategies to employ pursuing his main mission. Soldiers are team players, knowing the value of assets on the field and working collectively to achieve objectives.

Hired Gun/Mercenary

Somewhat less enthusiastic about team strategies, the Hired Gun or mercenary nonetheless has a solid mind for the objective, a single-mindedness that is often depended on to carry the action when the bullets hit the barrels.

Bounty Hunter

Even more single-minded, a bounty hunter knows his weapons, his defenses, and those of his prey. Often in disguises or double blinds, the Bounty Hunter takes pride in his process, his signature, and his successes. Dogged in determination and tending to be more personal and aggressive, they are rarely unsuccessful, even if they get a little bloody on the way

Guardian

Perhaps more selfless than the others, the Guardian nonetheless is a proud Gunner, providing protection and defense to his charge, over his glory in battle. Utilizing defensive styles and tactics, and given to ranged weapons and weapon types designed to contain and restrict opponents in some way, Guardians are protectors first, and attackers second.

Assassin

In the field of Gunner, the most stealthy is perhaps the most deadly. Patient and calculating, the Assassin is one of the most feared and most difficult to play. Still, the rather romantic aloof and distant if a Persona have at least some skills learned in the Ways of the Assassin.

Ranger

A well-rounded skills set surround the wilderness-rooted Rangers. They tend to be broader in their approach to weapons and wiles, and often will choose many differing skills rather than featuring a few specialized ones. they are survivalists first, and though they have a reputation to aid others, they do keep to themselves most of the time.

Lawman

Keeping the peace, arresting the Bad Guys, and winning the wildlands  one engagement at a time, the Lawman not only works for society, he works independent of the law, and may, from time to time, need to challenge authority and even release unjustly held prisoners.

Justicar

a combination between judge, jury, and executioner, Justicar are the Long Arm of the Law in the wilder world, as well as lapdogs of the Arcology administrators. The severity of judgment by these severe and somewhat dispassionate dispensers of justice is inversely related to the proximity of their ‘handlers’, those that pull their strings. On occasion, a Justicar will have a “white hat” – be truly interested in Justice. Usually, these are drawn from the pools of Cadre Members. (Gunners can develop into Justicars if their sense of right and wrong leads them to a life of protecting and defending through administration of justice and fairness
