Ghosts
A rogue spirit is a scourge upon Doskvol, hunted by Spirit Wardens and sought out as a servant by Whisperes and cultists. These entities consist of spirits without a body, craving life essence and vengeance on its earthly enemies. Composed of semi-solid electroplasmic vapour they suffer limited harm from physical attacks, but is vulnerable to electricity and arcane powers. Most people have a story of having interacted with a ghost. Despite the best efforts of the spirit wardens they are still common enough to be a plague on cities across the Imperium. Each encounter with a ghost is a harrowing experience and very few people walk away unscathed.
Spirits of this type normally may dissipate over time as their will is drained and the ability to act upon the world around them fails. This can take decades and often leads to small loops of energy or behaviour replaying over and over again. Those that linger amongst the living are often driven by powerful emotions, wrath, sorrow, and rage are the most common. These spirits come to manifest these emotions, losing their sanity and any semblance of their former selves. Some ghosts that are particularly strong willed and are able to maintain the personality and drive they had in life. Some of the most ancient of these stong willed ghosts have banded together and are collectively known as The Reconciled.
No ghost can survive forever without the life essence of those who are living. Those that live out beyond the Lightning Barriers are forever at risk of possession and this is a threat even in some areas deemed safe. This is an extremely unpleasant for the person involved and can often lead to their deaths. Whilst the ghost possesses someone, they control them absolutely and are able to read surface level emotions and reactions.
