The Jiaobu Detention Camp
On the outskirts of Jiaobu embedded in the forest is the city's detention camp which was constructed during the initial stage of Erdazan occupation. Once a logging camp it was quickly converted in order to house a massive influx of incarcerated individuals. This conversion involved expanding the camps housing and circling the entirety of it with a series of concentric barriers. The new cabins were built quite poorly due to the speed at which housing was needed. When in operation the camp was built to house eighty workers, by the end of 2485 the prison population exceeded 800 within a year it would reach 1,700. The prison population is quite varied, it consists of a number of Ucit military leaders who were arrested in the conflict, a few hundred people detained when Erdazan forces breached the Ucit Highlands, the rest are all city residents who were taken in by the Ofuna once occupation was firmly established. The criteria for this last group are hard to define in that many were not charged with any crimes at all. Reasons for arrest include any behavior perceived to be seditious or in any way resistant to Erdazan occupation.
The camp itself is home to no labor but many of the detainees are assigned to external work duty. Large groups of prisoners are regularly relocated to other parts of Ucita or in rare cases even Erdaza. These relocations are temporary in most cases but many have no determined end date leading some detainees to believe they are not likely to ever be returned home. While on these 'work duties' detainees are made to do backbreaking labor for which they receive little to no compensation. Those that do receive compensation find that the supposed funds often go missing before it can be transferred to their families living on the outside. As such the camp has been met with harsh criticism particularly among city residents who live in such close proximity to the camp. The Erdazan Central Authority is particular in its language usage when describing the camp not wishing to give credence to its critics who rightfully identify it as a slave camp.
The camp discloses little to no information regarding those who are currently imprisoned, where the incarcerated are, or the status of the health. What people do know is that the mortality rate within the camps is quite high. The causes of death aren't known with certainty but reports of rampant disease in the squalid and cramped conditions are many. It is also known that the camp guards have next to no tolerance for disobedience or refusal often responding to resistance with extrajudicial killings.
