The Kobold Prophecy Of Tails

The Kobold Prophecy Of Tails is a short poem or rhyme whose exact origin is shrouded in confusion, tall tales, and mystery. Although the author is unknown, most can agree that no matter how unbelievable, it was indeed written by a kobold. However, that may be the only thing certain about it, as its message and contents are unclear and ambiguous. Everyone seems to have a different opinion about its meaning and intention.
The Kobold Prophecy Of Tails       Powerful they are, to be certain.   Gone, but not yet forgotten.       Hidden, yet still they remain.   Awaiting glory, to regain.       Vanquished, but never defeated.   Finishing tasks, nearly completed.       Curses, soon to be broken.   Whispers once, now clearly spoken.       Forgetful, but soon they will learn.   As one by one, they return.       Slumbering, soon they will awaken.   Lives lost, and now forsaken.       Towers topple, and crash below.   Like insects scatter, and dangers grow.       Violent breath, do they carry.   Survivors flee, and be warry.       Destructive paths, they will make.   Ancient kingdoms, ready to retake.
— Written By An Unknown Kobold Author

Historical Basis

During the interrogation of the kobold chieftain, Gruel Halftail, it was said that the prophecy had been passed down to him from his uncle’s cousin’s, great, great, great grandmother. According to her, it came from her niece’s stepbrother’s cousin’s aunt’s, great grandfather, who heard it from the kobold shaman who lived in the tribe across the lake. It had come to him in a vision that he received after falling off of a slippery log and hitting his head. In the dream, a shadowy claw painted the prophecy in blood, on the wall of a cave deep in the mountains. He claimed to have visited the cave and wrote down the prophecy on a piece of deer hide.

Cultural Reception

Most intelligent races dismiss this prophecy as simple kobold nonsense that accidentally happened to rhyme.  They say that it is so vague and general that it can be applied to anything.  In fact kobolds have used it to justify everything from raiding sleeping travelers, to sacrificing trees, to fishing, to calling on their ancestors.

In Art

Some say that certain ancient kobold cave paintings are referring to this prophecy, but most agreed that there is no way to know for sure.  Most of what goes on inside of the kobold head is not even understood to most of the kobolds.
Date of Setting
This prophecy still exists today, when and if it comes to pass, is still undetermined.
Related Species
I’ve narrowed it down to two possibilities. Either this was written by an exceptionally intelligent kobold who enjoyed poetry and wanted to give it a try. So no big deal. Or. It was written by an exceptionally intelligent kobold who had a powerful vision of the future and saw the return of someone or something that the kobolds view as supremely powerful. In which case we all should heed this warning and dedicate significant resources to understanding what it is, when it will return, and how it was defeated the first time.
