The Knights Of The Rook

The Knights of the Rook were founded by Varick Castell of the historic freelance Knights Of Castell. This knightly order was created as a cooperative effort between several territories and power bases in order to secure a military alliance and foster trust and cooperation among its partners. Knights entering this order come from all members or branches of the alliance. As one of the larger and far ranging knightly orders, it quickly became the standard for other knights to emulate. High moral ideals, codes of chivalry, and the open acceptance of other ideas and cultures has led to great peace and prosperity throughout the lands.   Membership consisted of several branches of knightly orders, the Knights Of Castell (Freelance), Knights of the Shield (Freelance), Knights Of The Leopard (Kingdom of Lucane), Knights Of The Evergreen (nation of Lamorak), and Knights Of The Halo (Kingdom of Alynore).

Assets

This order of knights has once again been destroyed and as such it no longer has any assets.  The one important location and meeting place of the Knights of the Rook is the Kerekasztal.  If anyone is worthy enough to uncover its location then perhaps they can find some resources or inspiration to start over again.

Disbandment

The Knights of the Rook were destroyed and disbanded in 237 B.S. After answering a call for assistance from their ally who was under siege, the Kingdom of Lamorak, they were ambushed by a new and mysterious order of knights called the Knights of the Wyvern. Despite being surprised and the mass casualties, the Knights of the Rook fought valiantly until a member of their own alliance, the Knights of the Shield branch of their order, betrayed and turned against them joining with Wyverns. Now calling themselves the Knights of the Sword, they viciously attacked their former allies.   After barely surviving the trap, the other branches of the order returned to their own lands to warn and fortify against similar assaults like the one that had befallen their ally. The only remaining knights were the decimated Knights of Castell, who went to reinforce their allies and a few loyal freelance knights who would follow Winston Nimbus, "The Thunderer" and eventually join the ranks of the Knights of the Tempest.

Religion

The Knights of the Rook do not worship a deity directly, instead they are strict adherents to the philosophical principles and ethics of the nameless God of Good. These lofty ideals have become the standard code of chivalry and are known as the Virtues Essential. This order of knights enthusiastically takes solemn vows to each and every virtue.

Foreign Relations

The Knights of the Rook do not represent any singular kingdom or nation but rather a group of them and also work in combination with some nonstate sponsored freelance knightly orders. They add to each other’s strengths and work together toward mutually beneficial goals. These goals almost always involve common defense and protection for all of the peoples.   They are directed allied with the smaller kingdoms of Lucane and Alynore and also with the nation of Lamorak. Their representative knights are known as the Knights of the Leopard, Knights of the Halo, and Knights of the Evergreen. They are also made up of the freelance Knights of Castell, and the Knights of the Shield. They have many connections with other kingdoms, nations, and freelance orders as well.   Despite their heroic deeds, the Knights of the Rook have become the enemies of several kingdoms and knightly orders throughout various time periods in the past. Their most notable and historic enemies has been the Kingdom of Mordrede and their infamous Knights of Mordrede and the Kingdom of Ector and their Knights of the Chained Sun. Occasional clashes and feuds have sprung up with the Kingdom of Deganys and their Order of the Golden Boar and the mad Kingdom of Dagonet and their Jesters of the Lost Crown. Skirmishes with the freelance Knights of Duoc and The Sons of War have sporadically taken place as well. Perpetual battles with the Knights of the Skull and the Druids of the Forest Claw have usually been their main focus. Just prior to the Knights of the Rooks fall, their ally, the Knights of the Shield betrayed them in mid battle and attacked them, dubbing themselves the Knights of the Sword.
