The Great Fire Of Memoria

The Great Fire Of Memoria occurred in the summer of 617 A.S. and devastated the city for four days. How exactly the fire began is still unknown to this day, but many believe that it started in the poorer districts where the damage was the greatest. From here it quickly spread from building to building, eventually raging high enough to jump the "Inner Wall". Fortunately it was not able to cross the river and reach the merchant docks.   Although many rushed to fight the flames, they were mainly ineffectual due to the fire's intense heat, large size, and speed at which it spread. The black smoke choked the lungs and blinded those trying to put it out as it billowed through the city, suffocating anyone who stayed too long in its path. Either through heat, or flame, or smoke, many lives were lost to the inferno.   The tide only turned against the blaze when it reached the wider spaced stone buildings of the nobility and as the spell casters and clerics were finally able to use their abilities on the weakening fire. The Stormcallers and Water Wizards were especially able to push the fire back and contain it against the rivers shore before finally extinguishing it for good. Considering the size and rage of the fire, losing just over half of the buildings was fortunate. Fourteen people were lost during the fire, included among them, eight from knife wounds. The three merchants, two nobles, and three clergy members mysterious deaths were never solved. Many suspect gangs, rival guilds, and opportunistic politicians.

Manifestation

The great conflagration blazed for days with bright orange, yellow, and red swirling flames. Wind gusts further fueled the fire and blue flames could also be seen coming from the bottoms of many large fires. Great updrafts of smoke and soot darkened the skies and coated the city in grey ashes.

Localization

The great fire seemed to flow along the paths of least resistance with driest and most flammable materials in them. The flames did not spread very far into the areas clean of debris, made of stone, or near sources of water. So the most affected areas were those in poorer neighborhoods where buildings were very close together, poorly constructed, and the streets were full of rubbish.
