The Cochlea
The Cochlea is the main headquarters and administrative hub of the Cargol Council and Cargol City. It is a unique spiraling structure reminiscent of a giant snails shell. It contains a variety of rooms including administrative, research, and magical study rooms.
Purpose / Function
This building was initially constructed at the request of the founding brothers of Cargol City. Snigel and Snigill Snek wanted a centralized location to work and do research from. They later expanded the function of the building to include all of the cities administrative needs as well as becoming a place for others to conduct magical studies.
Alterations
Initially starting off as a small spiral structure, it has grown larger and larger with the passage of time. Each new addition has followed the spiral pattern of the original building. The last several years has seen a stoppage in the outward expansion of the building and the only new alterations are those of creating deeper basement levels.
Architecture
This building is constructed of stone with beige, plaster walls and rounded roof sections also made of plaster covered stone. The building is a very large, 500 foot diameter rounded structure, that spirals with a counterclockwise inward flow. There is only one large entrance at the front and the hallways follow the spiral architecture design. Many rooms open off from the main hallway.
Inside the Cochlea are rooms specifically designated for administrative offices, meeting rooms, magical learning school rooms, several research laboratories, and even a large research library. The Cargol Council also has a permanent meeting room set up.
History
Originally constructed in 665 A.S. as place for the brothers to perfect their extraction methods of the Giant Voyager Snail mucous and later as a manufacturing and storage area for the magical writing ink. It has since undergone several expansions, both in terms of physical space and in terms of purpose.
Tourism
Only preapproved people are allowed to enter the Cochlea. Generally these are administrators and their assistants, wizards teaching class and their students, researchers, and the The Reenboog security personnel.
