The Black Salt Of The Wyobi Waste
This Black Salt is only found in a few remote locations on the planet, the most recognized site is in the Wyobi Waste. Although it is often called, simply "Black Salt" or even "Null Salt" within the magical field, it is sometimes called by the name "Necrosalt" in a more negative and prejudicial context. Despite its rarity and various names, this salt has found many vital uses due to its magic draining affects and commands a steep price.
Properties
Material Characteristics
This black salt is similar to other salts, with very tiny, cubic crystals, and is a translucent black color instead of the more common white or pink colors. While some rare crystals may grow very large, the vast majority of them are very small and much less than a centimeter in size.
Physical & Chemical Properties
This salt grows in perfect, cubic shaped crystals, with 90o angles. The crystals are smooth and very soft. When struck or broken, they always break into smaller cubic crystals.
Geology & Geography
So far this elusive material is known to be found in isolated pockets of the Wyobi Waste and the former Sea Of Souls. Rumors have recently sprung up of potential salt deposits in the Null Wastelands as well.
Origin & Source
This rare salt has only been found in a few known locations. Small deposits are always kept as well guarded secrets, but large deposits are impossible to hide. These deposits seem to be found were ancient seas and lakes have evaporated and left their mineral deposits behind. In each known case, the seas and lakes had rumored magical properties before drying up.
History & Usage
Discovery
No one knows exactly who or when this material was first discovered. According to the witch, Ragana Moonshadow, the Black Salt is mentioned in Vestica Nightcall's Book Of Shadows as being used some 2000 years before The Sundering.
Everyday use
This seemingly insignificant but rare mineral has found many important uses as of late. This material's magic draining ability is a key ingredient in many magical counter spells. It is also quite often used in protective circles and rituals for either keeping magical or other planar entities out or containing them inside of the salt drawn symbol. When it comes to attacking magic users or magical creatures directly, it can be thrown right on top of them to significantly weaken or injure them. Assassins have even begun to slip it into the drinks of their magic using victims, making for easier and nonmagical targets. Some have even speculated that many witches will imbue a special drink made from the Black Salt, so that it temporarily takes away their magic, so that they can pass any witch trials, tribulations, tests, and inquisitions, although there is no written record of this to date.
Refinement
These materials only require a small amount of refinement that usually consists of carefully separating the salt crystals from the neighboring rock that they might be surrounded by or encased in. In rare cases of large crystals being found, some light cleaning may be necessary, or even some careful cutting, shaping, or polishing might be required.
Hazards
The mining and collection of the salt often leads to detrimental health effects if proper precautions are not taken. It is quite common for unprotected miners to develop several diseases including Lunghack. Magical creatures and humanoids who use magic are at additional risks of unknowingly being drained of magic. The magic users may become weakened and the creatures may eventually become sickened or even die with prolonged exposure. Non magical humanoids and creatures can use and even ingest the salt with no ill effects.
Environmental Impact
If left in the environment, this salt is known to dehydrate and slowly kill plant and animal life in its immediate vicinity. This will also prevent plants from growing here for a few years. It will also absorb and nullify any magic in close proximity to it. Both of these effects are short and use up and destroy the salt.
Reusability & Recycling
This salt can only be used once and then it is ineffective and cannot be recycled. Proper storage is highly recommended in order to prevent accidental contamination of the material.
Distribution
Trade & Market
While this material is very difficult to come by, it can be found available for purchase in many magic shops, gem shops, and occasionally in apothecaries or places of healing.
Storage
It is highly recommended that the salt always be stored in a sealed airtight container in order to prevent moisture from interacting with and ruining the salt.

There are no laws concerning the possession or use of the black salt.
