Conduma Griffons

“A magnificent combination of both powerful predator and resilient scavenger, a master caretaker of the wilderness.”
— Darcram Regnis, Master Of Beasts
This mysterious and iconic creature is famous for having the bald head and forefront of a condor and the body of a puma. Their intelligence, stealth, power, and flight make them one of the most efficient and dangerous creatures that one can encounter out in the wilderness. Their neutral alignment allows them to judge each situation on an individual basis without a biased or predisposed outcome. These mighty animals stalk the dry forests and mountainous terrains of the temperate regions and can often be coaxed into joint adventures with those who offer to benefit or protect the griffon’s territory from harm.

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

This species thrives in the pine forests and mountains areas of temperate climates. They are readily adapted to the hot dry summers and cold snowy winters. They seem to prefer the warm sunny days to stretch out and digest their meals after hunting and foraging during the cool clear evenings and nights.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While these twilight predators and daytime scavengers are able to catch and kill nearly any animal available, their preferred prey items are cattle, deer, badgers, rabbits, and large birds that wander into their territory. They also enjoy carrion and recently deceased animals. However, their favorite prey above all, are sheep and goats. They find these animals irresistible and will often seek them out first or even alter their strategies in order to feed on them.

Additional Information

Domestication

When raised from a fledgling, this species is very easily domesticated due to its unusual intelligence. Their large size and ferocity is often sought after for positions as guards, attack support, or even military mounts among other tasks common with its nature. These larger griffons are most often used as flying combat mounts and the long lived griffons quickly form a deep connection with the lands that they protect and their rider.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Wizards often seek out the griffon feathers for ingredients in air and wind spells or for use as magic scroll quills. Rumors persist of evil sorcerers consuming the griffon's heart in dark rituals or using it in potions that prolong life or increase their vitality.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Although this breed of griffon is said to be native to the woods surrounding the Breakridge Mountains in the west, it is possible to find them in other dry, forested mountainous environments. Recent eyewitness reports have placed sighting of them at the base of the Godstep Mountains as well.

Average Intelligence

While these griffons are not the most intelligent of their species, they are still extremely bright for an animal and can easily learn to solve simple problems and be trained to complete certain tasks as well as serve as excellent combat partners.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

In addition to being able to fly and having great strength, speed, agility, and stamina, their senses of hearing, smell, and vision are extraordinary. Not only do they have the vision of both the condor and the puma, but they also have low light vision and dark vision as well.
