The Terralesque Desert
Burdened by an ancient curse, the Terralesque Desert is crawling with massive creatures, the threat of which is unmatched anywhere else in Distotia.
Geography
The Terralesque Desert is locked away from the rest of the world by a range of mountains and an ocean that surrounds the rest of it. Not all of the Terralesque Desert is entirely sandy, there are some savannah regions as well. That being said, most of it is a wide open desert. The Terralesque Desert is also quite flat, allowing the Tarrasque that inhabits it to be seen at nearly any point of the desert. There are also fields of rocky plateaus and canyons in the Terralesque desert. The mountains are technically considered to be a part of the region, but most creatures prefer to leave the mountains completely uninhabited. The weather is usually blisteringly hot, and the climate is usually unbearably dry. Once a year, however, on the exact same day every year, a massive storm hits the Terralesque desert. The cloudless sky gets covered completely, and the sun goes missing behind a sheet of gray. For exactly 24 hours, wind whips up the sand, causing a deadly sandstorm with occasional blasts of thunder. That being said, no water ever falls from the sky. They call this the "Gray Sun."History
The Terralesque Desert was previously the home of a great civilization. They built toward the stars, and they were the first civilization to fully utilize magic. Unfortunately, they reached too far into the domain of the Gods. As a punishment, the Gods laid a great curse on them. On the Day of Annihilation, horrible creatures suddenly appeared in the sands of the Terralesque Desert. There were purple worms, sand whales, giant crabs, and of course, the Tarrasque itself. They destroyed the civilization and all of its people, leaving their progress buried in the sand. Occasionally, people will try to venture into the desert to claim the old civilization's artifacts, but this is a fool's errand. Anyone who has tried has gone missing. The Gray Sun exists to remind people never to enter the region, and it is rumored that all of the monsters come back that day, roaming the old ruins in search for more greedy men in the pursuit of power.Remove these ads.
