The Impophecy
The Impossible Prophecy
The Impophecy is the most embarrassing local legend in all of Distotia, but it stands as proof that even the pettiest arguments can change the course of history.
The Story:
Two wizards, Grungle and Tog, decided to move in with each other. This was a pretty big step in their relationship, and they were both very enthusiastic about making it work. It didn't work. Grungle was the messiest roommate in Distotia. He didn't clean anything, and every night, there'd be a new rotting piece of food somewhere on the floor. Luckily, Tog used cleaning as a means of stress relief. He enjoyed the challenge. That is, he did for quite a while. Finally, one day he'd had enough. Tog told Grungle to pick up just one piece of food, that was all. Grungle refused. Tog folded his arms and said, "I won't pick up a single piece of garbage until you start cleaning. I'm tired of carrying your weight." Grungle still refused. Tog was furious. "Fine," Tog said. He put a hand up to his head as his vision started to blur. "I'm getting a vision. Oh dear, horrid despair, suffering, all that. At the local town. What a great curse of misfortune! Oh, and what's this? One day a fabled warrior, who lives in this house, will clean up just one thing, and the curse will be lifted." "Okay Tog, this prophecy trick wont work on me again. Now I'm even less likely to clean! Way to make things worse." Eventually they both died of old age. Nobody lives in the house anymore, and with both wizards gone, there is no one able to clean the wretched house. Thus, the impossible prophecy. The Legacy:
The local town, Greywheat, is still "cursed." It's just an unlucky town. Every year or two, something will happen that's depressing enough for word to spread around the globe. Everyone likes to make fun of Greywheat, and nobody really wants to live there. That being said, the local gift shop makes quite a bit of coin selling unlucky trinkets; like dice weighted to the number one, or 8-balls that always predict bad things for the user's future.Remove these ads.
