Grand Librarian

Isolated from most of the world, the grand librarians ensure that nothing is forgotten.

Occupation

The grand librarians keep the Endless Library. In order to guarantee that no knowledge is ever lost to the passage of time, a group of dwarves carved a great cave dedicated to the storage of literature and studies. This cave is maze-like in design, and the only people who can reliably navigate it are the grand librarians. They also work to document all of the incoming records that they keep.   Grand librarians are constantly expanding the cave to make more room for new books. This gives the library a strange backwards storage system, where the deeper you go, the newer the sources are. This manual task of expansion is easily the most overlooked part of the grand librarians' jobs. To the public, they're just a bunch of nerds who are obsessed with the past, but their jobs actually require a lot of physical commitment.   The most entertaining assignment for a grand librarian to get is the task to recover some sort of historic media. This can include the collection of lost artifacts and relics that the librarians keep in their museum. This task can be dangerous, but it offers opportunities for the librarians to explore the world. The change of scenery is always welcomed.

Isolation

The Endless Library was created in the middle of all civilization. Unfortunately, the true middle of civilization is actually quite empty, meaning that the grand librarians typically don't see anybody except for other grand librarians. Staying in the caves can feel restricting to some of the keepers as well. Of course, researchers will pay a visit from time to time. Typically the librarians are very welcoming while also being very uncharismatic.
