Calandria

The Chasm Plains

Calandria is nothing but a wide open stretch of rocky land with great mountains, valleys, and pits.

Geography

The main ground of Calandria stretches for miles with nothing but smooth light grey stone. It gets quite hot there, and there aren't too many trees to offer shade. Calandria feels like a desert completely robbed of sand. The repetitive landscape also makes it very easy to get lost.   There are parts of Calandria that are mountainous. In places like those, it is difficult to walk without running into a new distinct malformation in the rocks. There are craters, valleys, and massive rocks that give shade to exhausted adventurers.   One last thing that is present throughout all of Calandria are the seemingly bottomless drops into the earth. These come in the form of cracks in the ground that can range from 3 feet across to some that are many yards wide. Looking downward, the pits always fade to black, as if sunlight is rejected down there. These chasms are rarely explored, as their maze-like bottoms are rumored to drive travelers insane.

Reputation

As mentioned previously, the chasms have a reputation for devouring the people who venture into them. It's unclear as to what exactly lies down there, as formal documentation is hard to come by, and most papers just conclude that the tunnels are just as barren as the surface. Still, some people believe that the chasms hold the largest number of undiscovered species in all of Distotia.   Depending on who you ask, some people think that the chasms hold secret passages into other parts of the world. There are people who swear that they were walking through the chasms and ended up somewhere on the opposite side of Distotia. These are just fables, of course, but it begs the question: what secrets do the twisting chasms of Calandria hide?
