Death of Ehlonna and the Great Schism

Summary

In the year 641 Kythorn (2964 years before The Collapse) a terrible conflict erupted in Stazun, the first of its kind. Elf was set against Elf, in what became the first issue that could not be resolved by diplomacy inside of Droden, since then there have been two other occasions where civil war has sprung up, neither were as deadly as the Great Schism. The Nation-State of Droden in those days encompassed not just the modern day territory of that nation, but also a majority of Toranika's lands as well, along with most of the southern reaches of Zhaev, along with dozens of cities underneath the ocean within a few miles of the coast. At first the violence was restricted to the capital city, but it quickly spread across the mainland, like a fire out of control. The conflict lasted just over half a decade with casualty numbers in the millions (the given number by most Droden historians site just under four million deaths, with eight million wounded during the fighting, and another sixteen million that were ultimately displaced, Kursgin historians have denied this number, proclaiming that Droden is hiding the tens of millions of Elves that were murdered for siding against the Drodesu, the exact figure remains unknown). What is known is that followers of Aquilan Themys, the leader of the dissident faction and then founder of the modern Kursgin state, murdered the Goddess Ehlonna in her own sanctuary at her holy site. This sparked of revenge killings against Drodedrow (as they were known then) in the capital city; the violence quickly spread outward on the mainland. Beory quickly became involved in the war, which then dragged in Vecna as they supported their own factions in the civil war. The larger Elven pantheon of Gods and Goddesses chose sides between the two factions and quickly brought their own followers and might into the war.   As the years passed on and the Drodedrow's situation became untenable they retreated over the northern mountains to Jarasir and dared the Drodesu and attack them. Following two failed invasions of Jarasir the Elves simply broke off all communication and went their own way. In the early years surrounding Kursgin's formation, large numbers of the Kursgidrow felt that Vecna had not done enough to stop the fighting before it had begun and would not follow the elder deity, these Elves journeyed north and founded the modern state of Kedin.
