Omnisian Language in Demis | World Anvil

Omnisian (Ahm-nih-she-ann)

Written by Mels

Origins

Cited historically as the language used by gods to speak with their followers, Omnisian is the infinite language, understood by all but spoken by very few. It is said that some of the most devout followers of certain deities would be gifted the ability to speak Omnisian to assist them in spreading information as well as the god's influence across the world of Demis. Not much more is known about how the language came to be other than that it is only known to be a spoken language with no written capability.

Lost in Time

It is unknown what happened to Omnisian and why it only survives in legend today, some believe that since the original speakers passed, the gods have not considered anyone worthy of knowing the language and thus it died out with the last of the gifted few who knew how to speak it. Others believe that Omnisian was actually a language constructed by powerful mages, used to create a strong magical alliance at one time that ended with some sort of calamity and again died out with the limited amount of users that existed. As it is with any language, it is also impossible to tell if someone knows how to speak the language or even if they are actively speaking it to you. To the observer, it just appears as though that individual is speaking your native language with no other visible indication that the speaker is using Omnisian to convey their thoughts. In this way, should speakers of Omnisian still exist or come into being once again, it would be difficult to identify them.

Still Searching

Some scholars devote their lives to the search of the lost knowledge of the language of infinity, believing that it will grant them the ability to gain untold power, solve interracial disputes or even, should the discovery be presented to The Grand Library, the ability to become one of The Masters. The capacity for people to once again learn and speak Omnisian would greatly expedite the collection and distribution of knowledge and thus be a pivotal rediscovery for the whole of Ankroth.
