P/2020 NO1 (Ryojin)

"The people stopped as one and turned their eyes towards the night sky. Streaking across the empty, breathless night was an inexplicable sight. A streak of blue; bright as the ocean on a sunny day; created an enthralling arch through the heavens. I witnessed it myself, your highness. What shall I tell them? They are worried that we have angered the gods."
-Fujiwara no Aki
The legends say that Ryojin was cast into the sky by those that envied the great sea dragon and his love for Benzaiten. It was these stories that lead researchers to name the massive comet after the myth of the equally large sea dragon. Stories of the comet have permeated through time, but just like many other heavenly occurrences, they were considered something that was unexplained. Recent sightings and observations have placed Ryojin as a comet that will visit earth again.

Fauna & Flora

As far as scientists are aware, there are no animals or plants living on the Ryojin.

Natural Resources

Based on spectral evidence, Ryojin's surface is thought to consist of a large amount of carbon with ice and minerals; consisting largely of silicon and quartz. It is likely that there are metallic elements to the comet, as well, and preliminary observations indicate the likelihood of hydrated, water-containing, minerals.

History

While it is unlikely that Ryojin is literally a sea dragon thrust unto the heavens, it is evident that some measure of element within the comet does have substantial effect upon the divine nature of the demigods that walk the earth. Stories of its first passing were coupled with a sudden drastic boost in divine abilities for demigods in general and does not appear to be pantheon specific. The presence of this comet is something observed warily for fear that its return may indicate larger conflicts on earth, as records indicate it has done in the past.
