Benot ha-Adam (Daughters of Men)

"Do they think earth is here to be their playground? Someone has to stop them. They kill us, torture us, turn us into their play things. When do we get to be free? When do we get the right to just exist? I don't know about you, but I'm not done. I'm going to take every last one of them down a peg or ten."
-Colette Eviana, Third-eye of the Daughters of Men
In the beginning, there were the sons of God. These divine creatures took wives among the daughters of Cain. It is said that the daughters then bore children unto them and these children would go on to become all of humankind. It is hard to say what is true and what isn't when there are demigods walking about with parents from Pantheons that society has marginalized and convinced the greater masses that they didn't exist at all. Nothing but myths.

The Benot ha-Adam believe in the "truths" of the origins of the universe. These daughters claim to possess memories passed to them through their lineages; truths; that they can use to better understand the world around them. They believe that the a divine being in its infinite boredom created the pantheons and the pantheon deities on its whim. They believe that these new beings of extreme power took advantage of their people and stole them away to become the mothers of the humans that they could control and claim. The daughters reject this notion of being controlled and claimed. They fight every day to try to reclaim the world that was stolen from them.

While the name may appear to be denoting of gender or sex, this is not the case. Benot ha-Adam are not all women. There are nearly as many men inside the ranks of the order as there are women, but it is a matriarchal culture with women holding most war-like governance positions.

Culture

Common Myths and Legends

While the Daughters of Men are fully aware, or consider themselves fully aware, of the supernatural and divine elements that plague the earth, they do not subscribe to the power of them. Instead, the Daughters revere the great earth mother. They are not adverse to calling her the many names that were given her throughout the cultures that have represented her in the past, but the most common names used are:
  • Gaia
  • Prithvi
  • Sif
  • Terra
In the beginning there was love. Boundless love. The great mother wished to share her love, so she created the heavens to be her consort and love her, they did. It was a beautiful, vibrant love and from their union was birthed the seas; the creatures; and most importantly, human kind. You see, the great mother wanted children to share her love with and so she and her lover bore them in their unique beauty.

Unfortunately, as with most things, nothing could stay perfect forever. One day the great mother's lover decided that he was jealous of her. Her children worshiped her and revered her, but the lover did not see that the children also rose to greet him with the dawn. It was not enough. The lover wanted more and demanded more. The great mother was saddened by the demands, but she could not endure his suffering so she bequeathed her lover the powers of creation.

From these powers came great beings with remarkable powers that could rend her flesh. They were able to control her waters and terrorize her children. They were able to force her deep within herself where she slumbers still today.
