Church of Ages

The Church of Ages is the dominant religion in the Bridge of Worlds, and one of the most influential religious groups in the known world. It is the most widespread and organized institution of the Agesi faith, itself stemming from the Old Lucine religion. The Church's focus of worship is a trio of gods: Uriel, Penemue, and Metatron (in their Lucine names). It also rules the Anointed State of Elmethid as its temporal holding. The Church of Ages is headquartered on a grand flying machine-cathedral, the Lumenica Prima, and led by a Clericarch and council of cardinal bishops. The current Clericarch is Father Cyphrus II, a Maldrathi Dragonborn.

Core Tenets

The Triune Ages. The Church worships three deities: Uriel, Penemue, and Metatron. According to Church doctrine, each was begotten by their predecessor and brought about a new age in the material world; Uriel brought the Age of Light, Penemue brought the Age of Arcana, and Metatron brought the current Age of Invention. While other gods are recognized by the Church as real, they are often deemed passive actors in the world and either less deserving of or not needing worship.
Saints of the Ages. The Church maintains a catalogue of individuals canonized as Agesi saints, mortals from all ages of the world who have been deemed divinely inspired. Examples include Saint Ingmaro and Saint Axia. By holding up paragons of Agesi virtue and inspiration, so should all mortals be inspired to the same, and many religious orders dedicated to and named for Agesi saints have been founded to carry on their example.
Reconstruction of Heaven. Like other contemporary faiths, the Church recognizes the current state of Heaven is shattered, but teaches that the gifts of the Ages - creation, arcane understanding, and inventive talent - are to be honed in this life so they can be applied to the rebuilding of Heaven in one's afterlife. In Church doctrine, there is no higher calling for mortal souls than to partake in the rebirth of Paradise.
Resist the Archons. The Archons of Sycorax are seen by the Church as irredeemably evil devils and demons, tempting mortals for the sole sake of prolonging their lives and the diabolical joy they gain from causing mortal souls to fall. While the day when Heaven is near completion and a reckoning comes to the Low Planes is inevitable, the Archons would see it take as long as possible to reach.
The Age to Come. According to Agesi teachings, the Age of Invention will be followed by a fourth and final Age, to be ushered in by the unborn god, named Dumah in Agesi prophetic texts. This Age will see the boundaries between the Planes fade, allowing for a final, apocalyptic crusade by Celestial and mortal alike into Sycorax, to tear the final fragments of Heaven from the grip of the Archons. This Age will end with the reunion of all life with Heaven and the gods, while the barren material plane is allowed to drift into the Void.
