Sky Islands

Geography

The Islands float high above all other ground surrounding them, many even piercing the clouds or swimming on top of them. Up there, the air is thin, but the plants existing there have found many spots on the floating rocks to grow. Often shaped like diamonds, the islands have a long pointy bottom and a mostly flat top, some bigger ones even having hills or steep mountains on top of them.

Fauna & Flora

Flora: Many small, almost self-sustaining ferns and grasses grow on the islands, but trees and bushes also found their place up there. (often planted by elves). Most of the flora is pretty basic and suited for cold as well as hot temperatures and prepared for rain and hailstorms. Rich greens and many blue/violet flowers decorate the small untouched islands around the mainlands.   Fauna: Bigger creatures are not found on the islands, as there is simply not enough space for them/food for them. Even if some would live there, no big herds could evolve, as food would be scarce and fights would eventually break out between the animals. Apart from the few farming animals, the elves brought with them, only birds, small reptiles and many insects inhabit the islands. For them, it's easy to get from a to b since they can fly around.

Natural Resources

The islands themselves don't get used for resource collection too much since mining in the floating rocks would destroy the homes of the elves. For metals and stones, they have to venture down to the ground. Many herbs and edible plants grow on the lower islands, which can be farmed. Trees also have been brought up to make living easier. The bigger islands are often covered with dense, but small forests of spruce or oak.
