Porto L'Abwajiyo

Pronunciation: PŌR-tō la-bwī-YŌ   Origin of Porto L'Abwajiyo. The Old Port, settled and used by so many groups over the years, was Port of the Bay, Puerta la Bahía, le port de la baie, porto da baía, and some just called it The Ship Bayou. When it ran down and was abandoned during the Inferno di Fago (a terrible plague that wiped out many villages, characterized by the highest fevers the world has ever known), it was referred to Port Bygone, Bayou Begone, or as one most prominent group of locals pronounced it, Porto. Bwygone. Even after the resurgence of shipping activity, the linguistic scar remained, and the Bayou, La Bahía, was renamed Porto L'Abwijiyo. In local street talk though, for short, it's simply Bway-yo. Occasionally Bwye-Bwye.
