Theodore the Nimble Fingered

Master Thief

Theodore Kelenson (a.k.a. Nimble Fingers)

Theodore Kelenson is a well-known thief who also goes by the name of Theodore the Nimble Fingered. He was born and raised in Yeleni, the capital city of Olinthis in Dysvoll. He was born to a Elensh father and a mother who was both Elensh as well as Neklian and he had influences from both sides. His father spoke Old Lentish, and he was taught it from a young age.

The Life of a Thief

The life of Theodore is quite plain and normal at the beginning. His parents were both carpenters and settled down together after they had fallen in love when they'd met through business. With their own privately owned shop up and running years before his birth, Theodore's parents were quite well off. They weren't rich, but they weren't close to starving either.

Wondrous Fairytales

Throughout his childhood, Theodore listened to stories told both by his mother and father. His parents had some overlap in their stories, since they had grown up in the same area and both had parents of lower class Elensh decent.   But each also told stories that stemmed in their unique cultural backgrounds: the father from his high class Elensh decent and the mother from her Neklian decent.   Theodore heard of many of the old classical stories written during the time of the empire, but also the wondrous neklian fairytales of magic, friendship and riches.
We read him stories most nights when he was small, we thought it would help him develop in a nice direction.   We weren't prepared that it would bring such twisted and resentful thought forward in him.
— Lina Kelenson, mother of Theodore

Bitterness & misconceptions

As he grew older, the tales of how wonderful life in Neklian was, soured him.   He assumed it was much easier to live there, since the leader distributed money to everyone, and they therefore didn't have to work, in his opinion.   Of course, this was a huge misconception. Everyone pulled their weight in Neklian, and the Refined Servant made sure everyone had plenty to live on. Everyone was appreciated and looked after, but everyone who could work, worked. This didn't stop Theodore's anger though.

A not so Bright Idea

Instead of realizing that he was already well off and didn't miss anything throughout his childhood, Theodore decided that he would change the fact that he wasn't rich.
Not through hard, honest work, but through thievery.   His parents were not proud of this decision, but they were unable to change his mind and Theodore wandered off to start a new life as a criminal.   Surprisingly, he was exceptionally good at his new craft, and soon he was the best pick pocket in the inner city.

The Big Heist

After years on the streets, Theodore was skilled as a thief and pick pocket. He had both pulled off stealing without being noticed in broad daylight, and stealing without being caught at the dark of night. He had also become very confident in his own abilities, which was quite justified, as he was also a tactical genius and due to his meticulous planning, had never been caught.

The Golden Plaque

His master plan was to steal the Golden Epitaph of Emperor Yarken, which was a priceless artifact from the empire times. This artifact was on display at Emperor Yarken's grave.
The emperor's burial grounds were under constant observation and even had a personal guard group to keep watch. These guards were highly competent.   With all odds stacked against him, Theodore went ahead with his plan, and succeeded.
None of us saw it coming.   He had told us of his plans, but we all thought he was kidding!   I swear, I thought it was his newest dumb joke to tell people over a beer.   And then that bastard went and did it, and we were gobsmacked! We still are!
— One of Theodore's thief associates
No one is sure how he managed, but one fateful night, Theodore managed to steal the plaque and transport it to an unknown location without anyone seeing him.   This was impressive in more than one way.   Firstly, he managed to avoid detection.   Secondly, he managed to avoid detection while carrying a 108 kg heavy giant, shiny, golden plaque.

Even as a young child, Theodore showed immense intelligence. He was able to read at a very young age, and when his parents didn't have time to tell him stories, he'd just read them himself instead.   Such a shame with how he turned out.

Theodore's base of Operations

After amassing quite the little fortune, Theodore bought a small house in the city which became his personal hideout. He planned all of his heists here, big and small.   Also the Plaque heist was planned here, but he never returned to the location after stealing the golden epitaph.   This frustrated the authorities.
They never managed to catch him, but their search for him and the plaque is still on.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during the conversation where he told his parents he was going to be a thief, and where everyone realized he did steal the plaque, I think both of those would be incredibly interesting :)

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.
