Causes
Brain rot is a condition brought on by genetics. Mostly found in bloodlines from the North but can result from unfortunate mutation or birth defect. Most cases seem normal for the majority of there life with the condition only showing signs in the late forties to early fifties.
(Unknown to the majority of people and doctors) the condition is sped up by cold conditions.
Symptoms
The primary symptoms are memory loss, Dramatic personality changes, and mood swings. What's more, the condition seems to come and go in waves, meaning a person with brain rot may act like a tantrum toddler one moment and and hour later be back to there old self. As the illness progresses, the "off times" get longer and more sever.
Along with the primary symptoms, there are also issues with physical faculties, meaning that the person afflicted might loose control of limbs or parts of their body. In particular, the face and lower limbs are most commonly effected, leading to drooling during paralyses of a side of the face or falling as a limb goes numb mid stride. Like before, these symptoms may come and go, but such issue tend to become permanent.
Treatment
The primary treatment for Brain rot is patience with the one afflicted and, as required, someone to render aid when required. Once a diagnosis is made, many request to be put out of their misery at some point.
Some treatments to try to hold off the degradation include use liniments applied the the forehead (ineffective), Bleeding (ineffective), Application of burrowing beetles (Sometimes effective), and application of a hot rag or time spent in a sauna (Somewhat effective at slowing progress).
Prognosis
The first signs of the condition are sudden loss of once easy to recall memories and uncharacteristic clumsiness. As the condition continues, the afflicted becomes irritable easily, partly due to frustration with sudden difficulties, which moves into uncharacteristic behavior (Ex, a prudish woman suddenly becoming intensely sexual). At the same time, the afflicted might experience sudden loss of control of a single leg or the ability to move a side or the whole of the face. Eventually, the person may report thought feeling "foggy" even when back in there normal mind
If the condition is allowed to progress, the person will eventually be reduced to alternating between a vegetative state and acting like a completely different person, with periods of returning to "normal" being brief and only occurring every few weeks. Eventually, the person will die, either from paralysis of the heart or having forgotten how to breath for long enough to suffocate.
There are rare cases where the condition may "pause", not progressing for a period of years, leaving the afflicted with the level of damage sustained by then.
