Celeste Riverwood

The Silver Tongued Seductress Celeste Faye Riverwood

As Celeste shifts on an old bar stool she clears her throat and looks out at the crowd before her. “So… You all want another story?” The crowd cheered and clapped in excitement. “Alright… Alright…” She chuckles and smirks. “How about… The Strange Child from the Sky?” The crowd hushed and settled in for another one of Celeste’s riveting tales.   There once was a sleepy little town called Oceanview. Nothing special really happened there until one day there was a loud CRASH far outside of town. Near the crash site was a large cave the local sorceress resided in. She stumbled out of her cave and saw a large crater just a few feet away. The sorceress approached the crater cautiously, having never seen anything like it before. In the middle of the large crater she could faintly hear a whine. The whine was of an infant girl. She appeared human at first but upon closer inspection she was covered in light silver tattoos that appeared to be runes. The sorceress lifted the child and smiled “A gift… A gift from the Gods!” She held the infant close to her chest and climbed out of the crater and retreated to her cove. “I shall raise you as my own and teach you all I know.” The infant cooed and the sorceress instantly fell in love with the child and knew she had to protect it at all cost. As the strange child grew she learned how to sing and tell stories as her mother did. She would often venture into town with her mother and perform for money and food. The townspeople were not always welcoming to the two outsiders. People began to talk that the crater was the sorceresses fault and that the strange child was bringing bad luck upon the town and that they would try to destroy them all. So late one night as the strange child no older than eight collected herbs nearby the townspeople gathered together and brutally murdered the sorceress while she slept. When the child returned she found her mother slain. She rushed to her mother’s side and knew the townspeople would be back for her. She remembered what her mother once said to her “Should I parish drink from my body and awaken your true self.” The child then drank from one of her mother’s wounds and cut a locket of hair from her mother to always remember her by and fled the cave. Celeste paused for a moment. “Some people say the strange child was slain by the townspeople and some say she disappeared. As for the crater? It’s still there on the outskirts of Oceanview. Some say you can still hear the screams of terror as the sorceress was murdered.” And with a slight gesture the sounds of a woman’s screech echoed throughout the tavern. The townspeople cheered and began placing money into the lute case beside Celeste. “You’ve all been a great crowd but now I must take my leave.” She closed her lute case, her sleeve riding up slightly revealing lines of silver on her pale skin. A small girl standing before her gasped. Celeste put a finger to her lips, winked, collected the rest of her things and exited the tavern. ‘Time to move on to a new town.’ She thought as she passed the town crier. He just began to yell his newest headline “Townsfolk in Uproar Over New Logging Camp! Hear ye, Hear ye! Pinesgrove has just set up a new logging camp, deep in the Faerie Forest-“ ‘Pinesgrove huh? Well that can’t be good.’ Celeste smirked and began the long walk to Pinesgrove to see her old friend Drogo.

Personal history

Celeste fell from the sky as an infant, landing on the southern peninsula of The Old Continent, in the country of Orthea, where she was adopted by a kind(if eccentric) hermit sorceress by the name of Phoenix. They lived together in the woods until Celeste was 8 years old, when Phoenix was brutally murdered, and Celeste found her body, with a golden dagger sticking out of her back. Upon finding her adoptive mother, and remembering what she told her to do, Celeste began to drink of her mother's blood, granting her a power over wild magic that not many could claim. Celeste took the golden dagger, and a lock of her mother's hair that she kept in a locket, and ran, swearing vengeance. She lived in the forest around Oceanview, trading the songs and stories her mother taught her for food until she was old enough to survive the journey north, where she spent several years traveling from town to town, trading stories and music for food, coin, and information on an assassin whose calling card is a golden dagger, until she was 22 years of age, and heard stories of Fae attacks on the village of Pinesgrove. She Arrived at the Dancing Faerie Tavern in Pinesgrove and spoke with her old friend Drogo, the house bard who directed her to a pair of adventurers who were also investigating the Fae attacks. It was there that she met Jorven Morgrath, a disgraced ex-captain of the Kings Guard of Sebron who was searching for the same golden dagger assassin that she was, out of revenge for the assassination of the King of Sebron five years prior, which plunged the country into civil war. Celeste had not been to Sebron yet, fearing getting conscripted or taken prisoner by one of the armies. The other adventurer was Faltorin Boyd, a half-elf thief who was under the employ of an organization known as the White Knights because they held his wife and sister captive. After brokering a peace between the Fae and the town, the party set out to Faltorin's hometown of Whitewood to save his family, with the promise that he would aid in their search for the assassin once he was free to pursue his own goals. Upon arriving in Whitewood, the party stopped at The Sexy Sprite Tavern, intending to stay there for the night. However, they were jumped by several members of the White Knights, and taken prisoner. After having a meeting with the leader of the gang, and finding out that Faltorin's wife was the leader all along, and only his sister was in danger. While they were in the prison cells after the meeting, Celeste had a conversation with an elf that was also taken prisoner, and learned that he was the prince of Aetheria, taken prisoner by the hateful organization for the crime of being an elf. The party was given their chance to escape when Whitewood was besieged by Aetherian forces attempting to rescue their prince, but Faltorin, his wife, and the Aetherian prince were killed in the attempt. With their only connection to the criminal underground dead in the escape attempt, Celeste and Jorven didn't know where to go next, so they spent the next couple of weeks running odd jobs for money and trying to find someone who could resurrect their ally. After weeks of travel, looking for any lead they could on resurrection or golden daggers, they came upon an old man, ranting and raving about a Sebroni sorcerer, with the ability to bring anyone back to life with a snap of his fingers. So they chartered a ship and sailed north, to Sebron, and found a house on the shoreline. After knocking on the door, they were greeted by a wizard in black robes, who introduced himself as Walter. Walter offered them a deal; he would return Faltorin to life in return for them obtaining an item for him from the Black Star Ruins on the Isle of Enlightenment. After they agreed, Walter snapped his fingers, and a door with a rose appeared. He swung the door open, and Faltorin stepped out, wearing nothing but a loincloth. Upon seeing the tattoo on Faltorin's wrist, Jorven drew his blade, shouting about avenging his king. Celeste stepped between them, and heard the story of how Faltorin stole the crown from the kings head while he slept, and in the ensuing chase, caused the king to be unguarded when the assassin made his way into the castle. Celeste then watched as Faltorin fell to one knee, apologized, and swore to aid Jorven in any way he could to find the true killer, maintaining that he had no idea his theft(at the orders of the White Knights) would cause the kings death. Jorven accepted Faltorin's oath of aid and sheathed his blade, and they set out for the Isle of Enlightenment. Upon entering the ruins, they found a smattering of undead throughout the main floor, and a large bunch of them in what they believed to be the vault. In the fault, they found an orb, and Walter appeared, seeming out of nowhere, picking up the orb and delivering interesting news; Jorven wasn't just the guard of the king, he was also the king's bastard son, and could throw his hat in the ring for the crown of Sebron. After saying their goodbyes to Walter, the party left the ruins and sailed back to Orthea, landing in Southport, where Faltorin told them that they should start asking around for the Black Coffin guild, the guild in charge of doing wet work. They stopped in at the Bloated Corpse Tavern, and started to party, in celebration of Celeste's 23rd birthday. While Celeste was playing music on stage, she dropped down to her knees to deliver a high note, and a golden dagger pierced the wood where her head was before. The partying stopped and all heads turned to the door as a figure in black darted out of the tavern. Faltorin and Jorven were up in a flash, chasing him out the door, with Celeste following close behind. They chased him through the streets of Southport, with Faltorin taking the lead through the rooftops while the others followed on the streets. Faltorin cut him off and Jorven tackled him to the ground, knocking him unconscious. When the assassin awoke, they had him tied up in an abandoned warehouse, and they coerced information out of him, learning that he killed the king on orders from Draven, one of the two princes trying to assert himself as king, and that he never meant to kill Phoenix, that Celeste was the target all along, but not matter how hard they pushed, he maintained that he did not know who paid him to kill her. Jorven then made the decision that he was going to try and take the throne for himself, and bring peace to his home country once and for all. Celeste and Faltorin agreed to aid him, and to recognize his claim to the throne, and in return he promised them seats in his court. Jorven took off the head of the assassin, and then they came up with a plan; they were going to seek the aid of the three kingdoms of the Old Continent, and be the first to lead a collected army of Dwarves, Elves, and men into battle, for the promise of Sebroni friendship and debt to the other countries. They set off for the dwarven Kingdom of Vir Fahlder first, seeking the aid of the Dwarven king and his council. On their way to the dwarven capitol, they were trapped in a cave by a dragon, who let them go in exchange for one of Celeste's many great tales. When they made it to Durmgist, they could not secure an audience with the king. After learning that the best way to gain an audience with the king was to impress him in the Arena, they entered the arena, where they were pitted against Minotaurs. The killed the Minotaurs and gained their audience with the king, who promised Jorven his support in the war if the Party were able to stop the Orc attacks on their caravans from the eastern city of Craffkondres. So they posed as a caravan and went down the route, and when they were jumped by a group of Frost Orcs, they chose diplomacy over combat, asking them why they were attacking. They learned that the Orcish village they come from was decimated by a dragon attack, and they needed the food and supplies to rebuild and feed their children. So the party returned to the dwarven king and begged aid for the Orcs, which the king promised as long as the attacks stopped. The dwarven king then promised Jorven troops and supplies when he was ready to begin his march into Sebron, in return for Sebroni debt and friendship. The party then set out for Eylenor, the seat of the elven government. When they finally reached there, as soon as they walked into the gorgeous city, Jorven had elven spears leveled at his chest, and they were brought before the Elven queen. The queen demanded to know what Jorven wanted from her, and they learned that Draven had come to Aetheria and secured the elven peoples cooperation with the war by kidnapping and holding ransom the only remaining heir to the throne(after the death of the prince at Whitewood), the queens only remaining child, Princess Ariah. Faltorin and Celeste promised to find and return Ariah, and the queen kept Jorven as collateral, promising to execute him if they didn't return, or returned without Ariah. So Celeste and Faltorin took two elven guards, and headed south to find the camp where Draven's men were holding the princess. They returned, without the guards(who gave their lives to save their princess heir), but with Princess Ariah alive and safe. the queen released Jorven without another word, and pledged her gratitude, mages, and supplies to his cause, under the stipulation that Sebron help cool relations with Orthea after her invasion of Whitewood once Jorven was king, which he agreed to with no reservation. Having been the first to successfully secure the aid of both the elves and the dwarves, Jorven led his party to Whitewood, where they commissioned a ship to take them to Sebron, where they would seek an audience with Draven in order to probe his strengths and weaknesses, and allow Jorven's forces to amass on the southern shores. Celeste took the lead in reaching Draven, flirting her way past his guards and securing an audience for her "benefactor" to speak with Draven about his conquest of Sebron.
