Yeh want to cross the straights on yer own? What a fool yeh be, don't ya know about the Kraken? Everyone knows that only the captains of the Port know how to navigate the waters of the straight. Me friend, who mates on a trade vessel that runs to Vantage, told me that they drag iron shackles under the waves. Its supposed teh remind the beast he was once a pet of the gods, teh keep him at bay. That's codswallop, me mate reckons it's sailing at high tide and steering clear of the Fall that keeps them safe. But who am I to warn yeh, you do what yeh want.

Any time spent in the docks district of
Port Murraine will eventually result in a visitor learning the tale of the
Hammer's Fall Kraken. The legend has it that
Able kept a Kraken imprisoned in the planes of water where he used the beast to control the denizens of the plane. The story holds that while Able was traveling across the planes the Kraken was set free by
Eth and set on a course to take revenge on its former master. Upon returning to the plane of water Able was attacked by the Kraken however the beast was easily subdued and its revenge was thwarted. As a punishment Able cast the Kraken across the multiverse where he landed on
Dalmestra. It is said that the Kraken's impact on the world split Vantage Island from the mainland and the oceans rushed in forming the
Hammer Straight. It is said that the undersea mount known as
Hammer's Fall is the lair of the Kraken and many a sailors are rumored to have perished traversing this point.
Despite the prominence of the legend throughout the fleets that navigate the waters of
Hammer Straight no one exists that is able to tell a tale of an encounter with the Kraken. Many have scoffed at the rumors and set sail to the sea mount but none have returned, leading to further embellishments of the tale in it's retelling. Many residents of the docks district of
Port Murraine retell the tales of friends of friends who were lost at sea to the fury of the Kraken.
While it's not widely known there is one living man to have survived an interaction with the beast,
Roddy Shortclaw . Strangely Roddy doesn't figure in many of the mainstream tales of the Kraken but those that visit his favorite watering hole the
Daily Grog will undoubted encounter his tale and learn more of the truth behind the legend of the Hammer's Fall Kraken.
I really love the quote you used at the top of the article! Really strong dialogue and adds a lot of flavor to this article about the Kraken. Would love to hear more about this encounter Roddy survived!
