Nata-Got

Nata-Got (Zean: People of the Spider) are an ethnicity living along the northern shore of Zea. They are famous for their craftsmanship, including weaving and manipulating sefia into materials. The name comes from the Change they undergo, likening their arms and hands to spiders. According to a legend, Nata-Got are descendants of a group of weavers, but this may be a made-up additional justification for the name.

Location

Nata-Got live in the central and northern Zea, with their main cultural center being Har-Got (Zean: Seat of the Spider), located in the center of the shoreline. Nata-Got form the higher tiers of society in the capital. While they mix with other, usually unaffiliated tribes, and often choose to live in the countryside, purity of lineage and compounded Change of the Spider’s Gift are source of pride in the tribe.

Description

Nata-Got are usually tall, 180 cm and above. Their skin is olive-colored, blue eyes and short black hair are prevalent. Many Nata-Got are heavily impacted by the Change, possessing additional fingers and joints, which immediately betray their heritage.

Life and work

Nata-Got are heavily disciplined and teach their children various trades as soon as possible. While following in the parent’s footsteps is preferrable, any trade requiring production of sefia-infused goods is respected, the more filigree, intricate and unique the product, the better. Most sefia-unrelated work is performed by the non-Changed family members. Nata-Got are expected to apply for an official guild membership, giving them access to not only tools, materials, and training, but also possibility to rise to higher societal functions. Har-Got and neighboring towns are led by Nata-Got Councils, usually derived from guild leadership. They rule with iron fist, often favoring their own people over unaffiliated citizens or even the other two great tribes. Their military is ruthless, as evidenced by their treatment of the Enevir uprising.

Export

Nata-Got are famous for their sefia products. They buy out most of the material brought from the mines in the east, but also release it back, transformed, as soon as the good are ready to sell. Many artefacts with subtle supernatural effects are available for those with deep pockets, but some are popular among the regular citizens as well, such as:

enhanced tools and weapons – usually simply more durable and resistant to blunting

pottery – including jars with temperatures inside significantly lower or higher than their surroundings

building materials – popular especially with Nata-Fii tribe, (Zean: People of the Swallow), like bricks resistant to weather and passage of time

Change

Spider’s Gift – causes the body and limbs to elongate and hands to sprout additional fingers. Number of joints increase more rarely, with extreme cases of additional elbows seen only once or twice in generation.
