Long runner

A long runner is a ship able to travers the ocean between the Dain and Zea continents.   Long runners' name is not and official governmental or organizational designation. Because the names such as the Transoceanic Cargo Ship or Dain-Zea Vessel did not roll off the tongue easlily, the public adapted the language they already knew. The deepwater fishermen called their shorter excursions 'runs', so the leap to calling a journey to a new continenet a 'long run' was very easy to make.   Almost every long runner is different. As the sea exploration to the north and east of Dain failed to see land, and the fishermen leaving for south-west may easily encounter the perilous Yellow Storms (and unwillingly earn the title of a Stormbrave), the number of ships designed to withstand long journeys was and remains relatively small. The news of the first contact between Dain and Zea came to the continent in the year 92 AU, when Iria Starwild and her Brave returned. Seeing as the Brave was an unique ship at the time, the few existing shipwright companies were scrambling for parts to create ships of similar quality.   As such, most of the first generation long runners were remodelled fishing and cargo vessels. Bought off of their captains for small fortunes, refurbished and repaired, often with additional masts and storage spaces added to the design. Then, about two-three years later, newly built ships emerged. Some of the second generations were almost clones of the Brave, some took more time to enhance the design. On average, a long runner's deck spans between 40 and 60 meters long and 15-20 wide. They have two main masts sometimes adding a third in the back. Below the surface deck there are two more, able to house fifty to eighty crew or passengers, depending on required storage and cargo space.   There are very few long runners to travel the distance between the continents and come back more than once. Both their owners and crew consider them extremely valuable investments, so every journey is meticulously planned. Cargo for the Zean custoners is long deliberated upon, and kept secret to avoid rivals flooding the new markets with their own wares faster. Some ships offer one or two-way tickets to Zea, but there are not a lot of souls both adventurous enough and able to afford the price.
