Enevir

Enevir (Zean: Anti-Change) is an outlawed Zean organization known for persecuting people who underwent Vir (Zean: Change).

History

Enevir was first conceived by a group of disgruntled artisans of the Har-Got city (from Zean: Seat of the Spider). They were refused admission to the official guilds on the basis of lacking the Spider's Gift in their or their spousal lineages. They argued that number of joints and fingers is irrelevant to one’s talent, and initially only demanded equal treatment. When the guilds remined unfazed, leaders of what they started to call Enevir began to recruit anyone with real or perceived slights against the Changed. The protests against unequal treatment quickly became protests against the ‘abnormal’ citizens ruling over the ‘true’ humans. The Nata-Got tribe (Zean: People of the Spider) military quickly and brutally dispersed the initial wave of unrest and the guild leadership refused to bend to the demands, but Enevir already spilled to the countryside.   The organization very quickly spread to the east and reached Nata-Kea (Zean: People of the Serpent). A small revolt was sparked, with several mining encampments declaring independence. The Snakeguard made quick work of the dissidents, but the seed of unrest remained. The Nata-Kea Council seemingly resolved the issue by establishing number of laws ensuring equal treatment of the non-Changed citizens.   In the meantime, Enevir was gathering forces in the center of the continent, among the small villages unaffiliated with any of the larger tribes. The Changed people quickly became subject to suspicion and persecution from their peers. Murder and lynching became a common occurrence. This festered for two years and grew to alarming size before anything happened. The situation worsened until the food and resource transport networks were significantly impacted, enough for Nata-Got and Nata-Kea to intervene.   Before the tribe armies met the Enevir force, large number of the Changed joined the Mara (from Zean: Green). The Green were the people attempting to subdue the vast Jaba-Dal marsh covering western Zea. Though extremely dangerous, many families chose to travel west and attempt to settle in the notoriously deadly swamp rather than face Enevir in their hometowns. This is largely how the nation of Nata-Fii (from Zean: People of the Swallow) emerged. With the help of many Changed individuals, slow encroachment on the marsh territory became easier and easier, until the distance and increasing self-sufficiency put them far away from Enevir’s reach.   Between 115 and 112 BU, a series of large battles, followed by methodical hunt of smaller Enevir cells took place all over the central and eastern Zea. They culminated on the southern Zean shore, when remnants of Enevir, including several of the original instigators, were slaughtered inside seaside caves by Nata-Got forces. Legend says that tides were washing blood out of the cave for days, earning it the name of the Hig (Zean: Wound).

Present time

In present times, Enevir or any similar organizations are outlawed. While Nata-Kea remained inclusive to all, Nata-Got didn’t change most of their strict rulings about guild membership. Several small organizations employing artists and manufacturers regardless of Change were formed in Har-Got, but they are not allowed to call themselves official guilds and are under constant scrutiny. Owner of any establishment or workshop blatantly segregating citizens is immediately placed under city guard watch. In the countryside, people still tell the tales of violence from 200 years ago. There are places, where Change is best hidden from the neighbors, lest the ancient demons wake up.
