Kaletar mountain: Elemental Rift (K'lee-tAr)

The last elemental magic enchantment

THEN 

  Hundreds of years ago, the Giants battle against the Dwarves and the Minotaurs. They form an alliance with the Elves, but was broken by the worst of reasons: pride.   Neither the Elves or the Giants, took the war seriously, at first but then the humans, the greedy humans saw profit in the conflict; this enraged the Elves and some Giant faction wiped out villas, castles and other human settlements without any force to stop them; because the human's rules don't care and left behind a lot of the people, armies, civilians to die.    But this was only the beginning of the end for the Elves, the Giants condemned this actions, creating a rift between the two races, once allies, now fighting each one for his survival; even when they know can't defeat the enemy by themselves, even the moment their home fell, they don't ask forgiveness nor help. The Elves lost, everything they have, cities, commerce, territory and finally were elves no more; the Giants fled to the other side of the peaks, the great peaks of the north of the continent, and never look back.   When the Giants retreat, chased by dwarven forces, a large group, the last wilders of elemental magic; create a "rift" in the Kaletar Mountain then, to stop the pursuers, cast an enchantment: the rift was filled with fire, ice and lightning; the dwarves are masters in military tactics, the armor they wore was imbued with divine magic to resist elemental attacks, but wasn't perfect, they can only enchant armor to resist certain type of energy, then they stop the chasing, they can't past the ever changing elements in the rift the giants create.   

NOW

  The dwarves construct a fortress and several watch towers that they warded a lot of years, until the Minotaurs take over, controlling all the site and don´t letting any one at this site, with the exception of some minoaturs, dwarves and only one human scholar. They don't have any intention at all of really study the rift nor sealed; they are confident some day will simply stop as all other magic did.   But they don't want the civilians know about this huge amount of non divine magic still exist in the world. Then they spread the rumor, the myth about some beast chained inside de cave.  

The myth by region: 

  • In the north:  Settlements "near" the mountain, dwarven-gnome settlements in general, in other lesser mountains south of Kaletar, they will tell you about a pagan god captured inside the mountain that's the only way the great storms of lightning, snow or rain can be explained, some other gods are angry.
  • In the main land Some village or humans cities, kilometers away from the north, can see or even "feel" the effects of the weather in the mountain, they will tell you that the mountain really is alive and the minos are the only ones suited to keep the gargantuan beast at bay. The Minotaurs spread this tale.
  • East of the mountain: At East of this mountain is a great minotaur city, here some scholars know the truth about the rift but the common folk or the militia will tell about a hungry beast that lives in the other side of the mountain range and from time to time cross over the mountain to feed, is when the weather is bad.  

Geography

Tundra, most of the time is snowing.    Is one of the great mountains in the mountain range at the north of the continent.   The rift is about 10m tall, and almost 18m wide.    All the time, at random intervals, the rift is filled with fire, lightning or currents of sharping ice; in a non pattern way.

Ecosystem

A lot of the normal flora and fauna are gone, the elements are deadly, the hot and ice are extreme and the lighting  "jumps" from the rift producing burns to the ground or even fire.

Localized Phenomena

Since the rift was created the climate in the Kaletar mountain sometimes is furious, as if the gods want to cancel the unnatural elements filling the wound in the great mountain range.

Fauna & Flora

Some pines growth in the vicinity, hundred of meters before the entrance. Almost all other flora and fauna are gone.   No one knows if anything can live inside the rift.

History

The elemental minotaur mages created the rift to scape from his dwarven persecutors

Tourism

The rift is guarded by a minotaur post, originally dwarven, to prevent any calamity; they almost are forget about the Giants, and don't fear it at all, they are as a myth, a children history, they believe once existed, have records of that equally forgotten time; but, as a good religion militaristic faction, they have confident in his skills and the gods, the divine magic will protect them if the Giants return.   Only minotarus or dwarven scholars of great renown can visit the place.
